- Episode 27: The Price of Darkness
The plan is to build a bath by the river. Let’s proceed gradually.
So, first I tried making a hot water tub.
A bucket can be made by combining square pieces of wood with angles on both ends to form a circle, securing it with a hoop, and carving the inside and outside to make it thin and smooth.
First, cut the board into ten pieces of wood.
Since we will connect these to form a decagon, we will make an angle of 1/2 of the interior angle at both ends.
The sum of the interior angles of a decagon is 1440 degrees using the formula “180(n-2)°”. Dividing this by 10 gives an interior angle of 144 degrees. It’s 1/2, so it’s 72 degrees.
First, I made a triangular mold with an angle of approximately 72 degrees, and cut the board to fit it.
“……that?”
I was planning to make a rough cut and make some fine adjustments, but no matter how many times I tried, the angle was right in one shot.
Well then, this is the power of <Craft Gear>.
whatever.
Oak craftsmen have tools that are specifically made for making buckets, so they don’t have to do the troublesome calculations like I do just by splitting logs.
Please forgive me for this loophole. To myself.
Anyway, this is the part called the side plate that will become the side of the tub.
Since it is a bucket, I want to make a cylinder that is larger at the top and thinner at the bottom. So, cut the side plate into a trapezoid shape.
There is no need for exact calculations, but be careful as a slight difference in width between the top and bottom sides will result in a 10 times difference in circumference.
Then, use a plane to carve it into a rough shape. Adjustments will be made later.
After combining the pieces of wood to form a decagon, tie them together with thick strings woven from bark and tighten with wooden sticks to connect the boards perfectly.
If you ‘fix’ it as is, you will first complete something that looks like a decagonal cylinder.
Cut off the top and bottom ends to make it straight, then use a circular plane to shave off the outside and inside to make it into a cylinder.
If it’s true, I think it would be necessary to use a hoop even if it’s temporarily fixed, but since it’s ‘fixed’, there won’t be any problems. Well, for the sake of appearance, I’ll knit it with bark and attach it to the finished product.
Next is the bottom plate.
The one with the smaller inner diameter is the bottom. Dig a groove on the side closest to you to attach the bottom plate.
Cut the board into a circle according to the diameter of the groove and plane it.
If you hit the bottom plate into the groove with a mallet and fit it into place, it’s almost like a pail.
After that, wrap the bark hoop around it, tighten it again, and then ‘fix’’ it without leaving any gaps.
To finish it off, I used a plane and a file to give it a nice texture, and it was completed.
I put water in it, but it doesn’t leak anywhere.
Yuwaku is ready.
“Well, what I’m going to put in it is water.”
Chigusa is being splashed with water over her head in a newly made bucket.
“Hiiii…!”
“Soujiro! This bucket won’t leak at all!”
“That’s good”
After seeing Chigusa hesitant to put her head in the river, I also noticed the absence of a tool called a bucket.
…When I’m around other people, I get inspired to create things.
It’s quite fun. Also, it makes me happy to make something that is needed in a place that is in need because it immediately helps.
Let’s increase the number of tools at this rate. I’m planning to build a bathroom, and I want to take it slow.
You should be able to build a bathhouse as long as you have wood and stone.
I would like to make a bathtub out of wood that smells good, like cypress.
I have a dream. Full cypress bath.
“T-this is so transparent…”
“That’s right! Moss silk is really the best, it’s so thin that it’s transparent, it’s light, and it feels good on the skin!”
“Ah, Soudesne…”
Chigusa received a bathing suit and went into the river with Mystia.
They were bathing together, having a conversation that seemed like they understood each other and sometimes didn’t.
“Wow, your proportions are perfect…”
“Chigusa, is that the river?”
Chigusa slowly descends into the deeper part of the river.
I’ve just gotten used to it, so I hope you don’t look too embarrassed.
“Ah, a fish. It’s a fish. Even I can beat him… Chikusa Shadow Manipulation Technique – <Octopus>!”
A high school girl starts escaping reality by catching fish with her octopus legs.
“Hey, Chigusa. Don’t talk while you’re taking a bath. Monsters will come.”
“Don’t be so angry—puu.”
be quiet.
Then, suddenly, Chigusa’s figure sank and disappeared.
“–Soujiro! You’re being attacked!”
“〈Craft Gear〉――!!”
Chigusa, who was rescued, was lying there with blank eyes and trembling.
His entire body was covered in thick mucus.
“Huh…ha, huh…”
“Oh, I was surprised.”
“Maybe it’s a subspecies of evil slime. Maybe it’s attracted to dark magic.”
It’s a monster whose translucent slime approaches it from the transparent water and drags its prey in, making it easy to kill at first sight.
A drowning person does not thrash violently, but simply sinks quietly beneath the water’s surface.
“It’s important to keep watch…”
“Isn’t it more important that you don’t run around? I’ve never been attacked since I’ve been here normally. I can tell by the presence of someone.”
“Ah…Sumima…Geho…!”
“…Well, please leave me alone for now.”
As I said this, I looked at the river again. I think the slime is gone.
However, as I was looking closely, I found something strange.
“What’s this? Did something like this happen?”
Glass beads.
It was a gray ball about the size of a golf ball, which you would think at first glance.
The surface is smooth, so it looks like glass.
When I picked it up and held it in my hand, it felt a little hard.
“Evil slime cells. Cells separated from the nucleus harden and become spherical. When the slime eats them, they immediately become living cells.”
“Even if it is separated, if it is eaten by its companions or the original slime where it falls, will it regain its volume?”
The mystery of life.
Hard and light. This material allows it to roll a little on the ground, and in a river, it can roll far away with the current, but it won’t be eaten by fish or insects.
“It’s difficult when they swarm. If you don’t crush all the cores, they’ll turn into a giant slime on the spot.”
Even if you crush one, the one next to it will absorb it immediately. Alternatively, it moves as a huge mass with multiple nuclei.
Either way, it looks like it’s going to be difficult. If you cut it from the end, it will immediately return to its original shape.
“I don’t want to deal with that. It seems troublesome.”
“Well, if it were me, I’d burn it with magic.”
“ah”
Since it is a somatic cell, if you burn it, the cell will die. wise.
“But you see, if there were no nuclear weapons, we would be safe.”
Mystia picks up two similar balls and puts them together. However, the slime balls did not unite and collided with each other with a clicking sound.
“It’s light and a little hard…it’s like plastic.”
“Some people buy it for the smooth feel of it. It’s cheap, though. Even weak slimes sometimes leave cells like this, so it’s one of the ways beginner adventurers can make money.”
“Then, does that mean the slime in this forest is strong?”
“Such that”
Crushed cells are scattered over a relatively wide area.
I don’t think this will happen if I leave it only occasionally.
There was a sound like breaking stones.
When I looked over there, I saw the revived Chikusa breaking the slime cells with a stone.
“Yes, if you don’t let your guard down… it’s like slime…”
It seems that the pride of the strongest wizard has been hurt.
“…When it’s broken, it becomes a smaller ball again? That’s amazing slime.”
The slime cells that were split into two became two spheres.
It’s a bit interesting. It’s good to have a creature called Griffin’s Claw that would make an interesting material for magical creatures from another world.
“It’s still fresh.”
Mystia honestly said that.
“Chigusa. Dark magic is prohibited when you’re naked in the river.”
“Ah, yes…”
But I was still careful.
