Debuffed Farmer - Chapter 35 - Part 1 END
The name ‘Sword Princess’ was a bit of a misnomer.
…
The immense gathering of EM-waves slowly transmuted themselves in a ball of lightning. Sapping energy from the surroundings, it was a pure ball of aura—something that was akin to a bomb rather than any physical attack.
Crap, am I going to get caught up in the attack?
Why wasn’t Giselle diluting this ball of energy with d-waves? Was there some condition that was stopping her from doing so?
A lot of questions and no answers. Still, there was nowhere to escape.
I too began to concentrate EM-waves around my body. I felt a bit of a stronger connection to my Zone of Absolute Control now, which meant that I could wear it like armour more deliberately.
Giselle still looked ahead as listlessly as before.
“Come on, Honour Student. Show me how much your ability has improved.”
“Shut up. This is your fault for bringing Yuki into this!”
“Oh, I didn’t ‘bring her into this’, she was always in this~”
Clara lowered her arm.
///
There was a very large explosion.
My arms felt as if they were on fire.
At least Seria and the guild lady were behind the counter—actually, maybe they had already escaped through the staff room. I had no idea since I was too busy fulfilling my curiosity about watching two hot girls fighting each other.
I was right in the action, taking it almost as front-on as Giselle was.
Fuck.
It burns.
Looking up a little, past the smoke, cinder and eye-piercing flames, I could see the remainder of the furniture ripped into smithereens, peeling off into char. I couldn’t distinguish what, but a lot of stuff was melting.
My arms definitely felt like they were burning.
I’d guess that it’s similar to how it feels when you sit in the sauna for too long… and if an army of fire ants also crawled into the sauna with you. Actually, can ants even survive in those hot temperatures? I’d guess so, I mean in the wild, temperatures are—
“That was nice, Clara. Still, it’d be much stronger if you used it more often. You have to stop clinging onto the past~.”
As the debris subsided, I could see Giselle’s figure, standing just as prominently as it was before the attack.
Lowering her sword, Giselle placed it back into its sheath.
Clara looked up in awe… or was it desperation?
“What’s wrong, Honour Student? You didn’t actually expect your trump card to do anything to me, did you?”
“There’s no way that did nothing…”
“For all the studying you do, you don’t think very creatively.”
Giselle walked forward.
She kneeled down and raised Clara’s chin. Speaking down to her like an owner would to their dog, she smiled.
“Let me tell you something. It’s not only about learning theory. None of the strongest people in the world write books. If you want to get stronger, you have to learn to play outside of the rules.”
Pulling her up, Giselle brought Clara back to her feet.
“What are you going to do now, Giselle?”
“What am I going to do? I’m going to complete my orders, that’s all.”
“And what exactly does that entail?”
“I’m going to have a talk to Yuki. That was part of my mission—to tie up the loose ends in the town before clearing it. There’s a pretty important infrastructure project that’s being planned here. Well, ‘infrastructure project’ is a light way of putting it.”
“No.”
“Hm?”
“Don’t hurt Yuki. Please. There’s no one who—”
Hey, I feel like there were more important matters in that dialogue…
Clang.
Oh shit. My hand slipped.
Both of the girls turned and looked over at me.
Um.
This is a bit awkward.
“Hey…” I said.
Giselle smiled a little.
“You’re still alive. Not bad, who are you?”
“I’m Clara’s friend.”
“Stop sidestepping my question, okay~?”
Her smile disappeared, but her tone was still soft.
“Um, I’m Rin. Rin Takamiya.”
She walked over to me.
“I’ve never seen you around. You weren’t here on my first visit to this town. Where did you come from, Rin~?”
There was something enchanting about the way she looked at me. Her deep opal eyes showed that there was something sophisticated about her person, but not her expressions nor her glance said anything about her. She just seemed crazy… she didn’t act it, but it just felt like that. That was the only thing I could deduce.
Is this what the aura of strong people feels like?
“I came from somewhere far away. Maybe Clara can explain it to you.”
“Ah, she can read the past. But still, I want to hear from you.”
“Why? I’m pretty bad at explaining things.”
“That’s no problem~.”
“Erm, I guess I was reincarnated. It’s pretty confusing.”
“Reincarnated? That’s certainly new. Anyways, you’re pretty strong, Rin. You give me the impression that you might know more—like Clara. Are you friends with Yuki as well?”
“I guess you could say that.”
“Aha, you’re pretty humble, aren’t you?”
I don’t think Clara would agree. Regardless, I’ll take that as a compliment.
“Sure.”
“Haa~. Well, your new home is probably going to be in a bit of strife. The local ‘police’ are going to arrive soon, and I’m going to kill them too. So it’ll be best you move somewhere else.”
“Okay.”
I was planning on doing that anyway.
“Actually, I want to learn more about you. Your ability seems to work a bit differently from normal abilities, a God’s Blessing is very rare. How about this, I’ll give you a place to live—near the capital. There might be something useful you can do for me.”
“The capital?”
“Yes, it’s where all the higher-ups live. Clara used to live there before she ran away like a little delinquent~.”
“Is it going to be a nice home?”
“Aha, it’ll be pretty nice. Much better than anything you can find here, at least. I’m going to be taking Clara back with me, so I wouldn’t mind taking you along too.”
“Can you give me a big backyard where I can plant plants?”
She giggled.
“That’s a pretty weird request, but I’ll see what I can do. You’re going to have to follow my orders when you’re up there though.”
I suppose I could do that.
“Also, I might bring a little bratty girl with me.”
“That’s fine with me. The one from earlier?”
“Yeah.”
