Debuffed Farmer - Chapter 36
Sitting in an awkward position on a weirdly curved chair, I looked up at Giselle. It seemed that the furniture in this room wasn’t designed for comfort, but, in fact, to ensure that no formation will ever allow you to efficiently stack them on a shelf. I guess the designers must be storage shed owners or something.
Regardless, the psychopathic blue-haired girl had her leg up on the table in front of me, spinning some keys on her finger. Jingle jingle.
“So… what are we doing here?”
“I just have to ask you a few questions. That’s perfectly fine, right?”
“This sounds like some foreshadowing.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t go all Yandere on you. I’ve already got a boy I like.”
“Really?”
Honestly, it came as a surprise to me. For all I knew, she was just some psychopathic servant girl to the capital. I was surprised that she had enough emotions to genuinely like someone—although the same thing could be said about me…
“Of course, why wouldn’t I?”
“I don’t know, maybe because you’re the type of girl to kill hundreds of people with no remorse?”
“Those two things aren’t related.”
I mean…
“Anyways,” she continued, “you were reincarnated, right? Tell me more about that.”
“Um, well, I died in my old world, I saw some man in a suit and a girl, then I got reincarnated in some spirit realm or something. After that, I was sent here.”
She looked around for a moment before staring into my eyes.
“Tell me about your old world.”
“I don’t remember much. It was called Earth, there was no magic or anything, and I think my life there was pretty bad, although my life here isn’t much better.”
“Earth… doesn’t seem to ring a bell.”
“Yeah, that’s basically all I remember. There’s nothing else. It’s almost like my memories have been wiped or something.”
///
“That’s weird. Oh well, let’s move onto the next topic. You’re going to be my assistant, or disciple, or whatever you want to call it.”
“What do I have to do?”
“Nothing at the moment, I’m going to train you first. I was intending on having Clara fill this position but she’s a bit too rebellious for my liking. I’ll get her to do something else.”
“Okay.”
I was certainly looking forward to actually learning how to use this power system. At this moment, I’ve been using a mixture or trial and error and willpower to try to get things done. There was definitely a better way.
“Can we start right away, Giselle?”
“Oh? That’s a nice attitude.”
“Mhm. I’ve been wanting to learn how to fight.”
“That’s good. Well, this is your house after all, I’ll teach you some basics right now.”
Wow, this is progressing way better than I thought. I’ll let all the psychopathy slide for now since she was both hot and strong. She also had more kindness than Clara (who’s purely tsun and no dere).
We made our way to the front yard of the large estate that Giselle had prepared for me. I’ll save the descriptions for later, but Seria was definitely happy with our living conditions. If it was good enough to satisfy a spoilt child like her, it was good enough for anyone.
Stepping outside, Giselle turned to me.
“Alright, I’ll give you a few exercises to train your control.”
She raised her and opened her palm.
Suddenly, I could see the concentration of EM-waves increasing around her hand. D-waves were quickly converted and I could feel a slight sapping sensation coming from her palm. The concentration continued to grow relentlessly, producing a warping appearance, eventually, her hand began to bleed.
“You know, my EM-wave tolerance is actually lower than Clara’s. I’ll start feeling serious pain at around 75%.”
It would’ve meant that she didn’t just simply concentrate a greater amount of EM-waves around her body to defend against Clara.
“How can you withstand her attacks so easily then?”
“Using d-waves.”
D-waves?
“Do you draw d-waves around you to lower the concentration of EM-waves?”
“Bingo, I’m glad you’re a fast learner. When it comes to fights with strong opponents, especially humans, utilising d-waves is often more important than using EM-waves.”
I guess it made sense. If she could concentrate a large enough amount of d-waves around her body, it would immediately dilute any EM-wave-produced attacks and thus weaken them significantly. It would also not be determinant on one’s EM-wave tolerance, giving it more room for manoeuvrability.
“But don’t think of d-waves as the same as EM-waves.”
“How come?”
“EM-waves are converted directly from d-waves by your Realiser and can be moved around freely. However, d-waves always travel from a places of high concentration to a place of low concentration. This means, to move d-waves around, you have to ‘hide’ d-waves from your surroundings.”
What?
So I basically have to reduce the concentration of d-waves to draw more d-waves in?
“How do I do that?”
“You have to first convert them to EM-waves, drawing in more d-waves, then convert them back into d-waves, suddenly bolstering the concentration.”
Ah. I guess everything did work logically.
Giselle suddenly lowered her arm.
“Anyways, I just want to see what level you’re at. Raise your arm and make some EM-waves.”
I did as she said.
She observed for a little before smiling.
“That’s very nice. You’ve got a similar tolerance to Clara, and you’ve already got a decent understanding of how to use it.”
I guess all the sudden scenarios in which I’ve been forced to fight helped me significantly in my control. The fight with the Revenger probably brought about the most growth. I should thank Clara for that.
“That’s all good then. We can skip the first step and I’ll go straight to helping you with d-waves. This was something that Clara always hated.”
“Why was that?”
“Because she doesn’t like using little tricks like me. She’s someone who prefers to gather as much physical power as possible.”
I guess that sounded like her.
