Even Hell's Affairs Depend on Gold - I Got Fired, but I've Acquired an Alchemy Cheat Skill, So I'm Aiming for a Major Life Turnaround - Volume 1 Chapter 135
I pressed my temples in frustration after reading Nanapon’s message.
“What’s wrong, Senior?”
“Did Nanapon turn you down?”
Kaede-chan and Satsuki-san, noticing my demeanor, inquired. I silently placed my phone on the table.
Both leaned forward to read the screen of my phone.
“………………..”
“………………..”
After reading the exchange between Nanapon and me, they both fell silent.
“What will you do?”
I asked them, while they were still fixated on the phone screen.
“Okita, call Nanapon here.”
“Yes, she should just skip university for this.”
Their eyes gleamed with desire. I picked up my phone to message Nanapon.
“Come here right now.”
“Okay, I’ll be there after a bit, just finishing up.”
After reading her reply, I put away my phone.
“She’s coming soon. Does she not have any desire for treasure?”
“I don’t know. If I found gold bars, I would go after them immediately.”
I would do the same.
“I would invite someone and go too.”
That’s the normal reaction.
“Satsuki-san, Nanapon isn’t here yet, but is it okay to proceed with the nomination request?”
“Let’s do that. I’ll talk to the headquarters chief and get things moving in that direction.”
Great, how much would those gold bars be worth? An auction maybe?
“The headquarters chief might be suspicious, right? After all, you’re the ‘Golden Witch’.”
“True. The headquarters chief might think I know something and am making a move. After all, there’s the theory that I’m a Frontier person.”
They would definitely suspect that I’m up to something.
“What if we involve the headquarters chief himself? And let’s borrow Yoshino-san. Frankly, I’m uneasy with just Nanapon and me, inexperienced as we are. Yoshino-san, and maybe Lin-san… won’t come, will they? But it’s better if Yoshino-san joins us at least.”
Lin-san likely wouldn’t come, being a retired and married adventurer.
“Actually, Yoshino already knows about this job. But she’s demanding 50%.”
“That’s just like her…”
Typical Yoshino.
“Normally 30%, right?”
“For a three-way split.”
“She won’t do much. You two are the main players. 20% at most.”
Seems fair.
“But I still want an A-rank adventurer with us.”
“Yoshino-san should be enough. It’s reassuring to have someone experienced.”
“25% seems to be the battleground then.”
“A stand-off between two money-grabbers.”
“What about the Self-Defense Forces accompanying us?”
“They’re public servants; they won’t get a share. They’re there to guard you and ensure you don’t do anything extra.”
No pay for them, then.
“What about the guild?”
“We’ll auction the gold bars. I’ll get 5%, and so will the headquarters chief.”
So the guild gets its share from the auction.
“The rest is for Nanapon and me.”
“That’s how it seems.”
We’ll share it equally.
“Yoshino-san is a safer bet. She may be greedy, but she’s cautious and has been a leader for a long time.”
“Yoshino-san is the best choice. Satsuki-san would just end up fighting with the Self-Defense Forces.”
“Absolutely not. What’s your Provocation level, Satsuki-san?”
“I don’t have it.”
Definitely lying.
“A staggering level 5.”
“Hey! Kaede!”
She’s as provoking as they come.
“Senior, don’t get provoked. Satsuki-san is just trying to raise your level.”
“Ah, I see. Tricky!”
“Yoshino-san it is then. Shall I call her, or will you, Satsuki-san?”
“I’ll do it. You’re not good at negotiations, and it’s better if I handle it.”
Satsuki-san picks up her phone to make the call.
“I leave it to you.”
“I’ll make sure to mention the headquarters chief might be involved, so don’t talk, Okita.”
I nodded, happy to leave it in the hands of someone more experienced.
