Genocide Reality - Chapter 26 - Balance Breaking Invasion
This was no time to be rigid in the face of the enemy. I was frozen for less than a second. Even that momentary gap was enough time to allow the enemy to attack first.
I leapt backward with all my might.
“Whoa!”
The black death sword passed downwards through my cheek, and the tip of the sword scraped the abdomen of the chainmail.
It was a close call, and I hadn’t intended to dodge it by such a narrow margin, so I felt a rush of panic.
What a heavy sword! The chainmail’s protection is almost irrelevant as it slashed right through it.
Not only is it heavy, but it is fast. The footsteps of the heavy armor dragging along with a clang, clang, clang sounded like a feint.
Is this the enemy from the fourteenth floor? The speed, depth, and power of its sword strikes were undeniably menacing.
It wasn’t just skill, though.
…No, it’s not just technique.
It was also the fact that I was in a panic, but the mysterious movements of the Black Death Knight seemed somehow inexplicable to me.
That’s why I didn’t rely on my usual paper-thin evasion.
I went all out with a back jump, but it was still a close call. Somehow, it felt like the distance was being manipulated.
In the instant the enemy slashed in, their movements suddenly seemed to fast forward.
What’s with this strange sensation? Anyway, when avoiding their attacks, I shouldn’t rely on perception but go all out.
And there are two of them
In addition, I’m exhausted now. I can’t even use magic for lack of mana… The more I think about it, the more I realize that tactical retreat is the only option here.
Fortunately, thanks to their full body armor, the Black Death Knights can only walk when moving, aside from when attacking.
It is the same as in the game, and considering the difference in speed with the opponent, it is possible to escape completely. There is no shame in running away.
My hunger as a swordsman, the single combat with Ennosigaeus on the seventh floor, was good.
I felt that I was fighting an equal warrior. The more dangerous it was, the more enjoyable the life-and-death exchange was.
The enemy was a swordsman type. I wanted to see which was stronger, the Black Death Sword of the Black Death Knight or my ‘Solitude’.
Even though the enemy has the advantage of being two against one, they attack with full force without any complacency.
The Black Death Knight, with their drawn sword, came at me from both sides as if to pincer me.
Not just the speed at which they swung their long swords, they came from both sides, I couldn’t deflect both.
At this rate, I’ll be killed.
While my heart burns with a desire for a heated duel, my gamer brain calmly calculates the outcome based on the difference in strength.
At my Fighter rank, which is still only an Expert, it would take me five turns at most to engage the two Black Death Knights head-on.
In my mind’s eye, I see myself being gradually worn down each turn, receiving a fatal blow on the fifth turn, and being cut to pieces by the two Death Knights, sinking into a pool of my own blood.
This vision of defeat would soon become a reality if I continued on. It’s a pity, but I can’t take on two at once.
“Enough!”
I leaped backward once more with my sword at the ready, and the two black death swords that had been swung down in front of me collided with each other.
It feels as if the tips of the swords have accelerated. The two Black Death Knights slashed at me precisely and swiftly almost like machines.
I feel as if I am dealing with robots since they are not intelligent living human beings and they are wearing full body armor made of black steel.
I flee out of the hall and over the lava corridor.
I walk on the lava floor, knowing that if I step on it, I will be damaged, and they chase after me.
Despite the noise they make, the distance between me and them does not widen.
It’s impossible for this to happen.
I felt as if some kind of delaying magic was tricking me.
Well, there was such magic.
A quick spell that slows down the opponent and speeds up your own perceived time.
“Ro Fuu Wa Rosu (Beginner Time Dilation Release).”
This is a very high-level spell.
It doesn’t always succeed the first time, but I think it worked and my perceived speed has increased. Maybe my magician rank is higher than I thought.
I thought about stacking, but I can’t utter the words.
My mana is completely depleted. It may have been a successful spell, but if I get cornered here, there’s no way out.
I think as I run away. The enemies are from the 14th floor. It wouldn’t be strange if they had seen a scroll with the ‘Quick’ spell and learned from it.
But warrior-type monsters should have low mana and magician rank. If my guess is correct, I should be able to neutralize them with novice-level magic.
“Huff, huff… I might be feeling it faster because I’m tired.”
After consecutive battles, I could have been more agile, but I don’t have the luxury of using my potions to recover stamina right now.
In the face of the impossible situation of two “invasions”, I should consider that my common sense of Genocide Reality is no longer completely valid.
The Black Death Knight, who is supposed to only push with force, is a living opponent, who uses latency magic.
“Haha, you really don’t hold back.”
I shouldn’t be laughing, but I’m not aimlessly running away either.
Wearing black steel armor, no matter how high-strength the monster is, the lava floor must have taken a toll.
“Yes, having wisdom and learning also means experiencing pain and fear.”
The Black Death Knights, chasing me, are a creature that also knows both fear and excitement.
They’re not falling for my attempts to separate them, showing intelligence.
Their coordinated pursuit gives the impression of independent thought.
Perhaps, despite their mechanical movements, they find exhilaration in the hunt when faced with surprisingly challenging prey. If they’re the same kind of creature, I should be able to defeat them.
“Now, come this way, here!”
I lead the enemies around while inducing them, and when we reach the planned location, I quickly turn around.
Then I received the two black death swords swinging down at me. At the same time, I pressed the button on the door.
A loud noise and a heavy iron door descended on top of the two Death Knights.
One of them broke its shoulder from the falling door, and one of them snapped its head to the side with a jerk.
“How’s that? Do you like my trap?”
I thought that slamming an iron door onto their heads might be too simple a trap to work, but the enemies seemed rattled. It appears they had no experience with door traps.
They must have been caught off guard. The movements of the two Black Death Knights as they swung their black death swords lacked finesse.
The iron door, repeatedly descending from above with a thud, was consistently dealing damage. Despite the unexpected attack, the enemies did not retreat.
Perhaps they are underestimating me even now. That thought fueled my anger.
“Ggh, not yet!”
I was unable to respond to two simultaneous slashes and took a shallow blow to the shoulder, but I defended myself in front of the door.
The advantage is on my side, and if I keep pushing like this, the enemies will be crushed by the iron door.
Another shallow cut to the arm made me feel that I was being too greedy in aiming to take out both of them at once.
I concentrated my attack on one of them, and let him take a big thrust.
With a loud crash, the Black Death Knight on the right was blown away to the other side and fell on his back.
In the meantime, the Black Death Knight on the left, who had raised his black death sword to attack me, was hit directly by the descending iron door and dropped to his knees.
Now I have only one opponent.
One-on-one, here we go!
With the iron doors falling from above and my ‘Solitude’ slashing in front of him, the Black Death Knight finally fell to his knees and crumpled to the ground.
Then, the iron door dropped with a thud.
There was a sound of the heavy door crushing the hard armor trapped between it and the ground.
The Black Death Knight stopped moving as it did.
“I killed it… Hahahaha, I killed him!”
With my rank, I killed an enemy of the 14th floor.
Although the real hero of this situation was the iron door, and I can’t take much credit for it, taking on two powerful Black Death Knights who are resistant to most attack magic and have strong physical attacks at the same time is a significant achievement.
I decided to take a short break and then deal with the other weakened one.
Thinking that way, I turned around and was left speechless.
Two new Black Death Knights were approaching from the other side of the corridor.
With a clunking sound, the door behind me opened.
The Black Death Knight, the wounded one from earlier, pushed the button to open the door. He approached me with a sharp black steel sword ready.
I was completely surrounded. Three opponents at once….
“Impossible.”
Cool-headed, I moved quickly to the side, activated the pit trap that was there, and fell down.
※※※
“Ow…”
I’m not acting recklessly either.
While taking a safety margin of my own, I thought about it and lured the enemy that far.
Engaging with the two Black Death Knights and feeling that I couldn’t defeat them, I had chosen the pit trap as the battleground, ensuring I could escape immediately if needed.
I dropped about three meters in an awkward position, slamming my body hard against the floor, causing sparks to fly in my vision. However, it was better than being surrounded by three of them and being cut to pieces in that situation.
I rummaged through my backpack and quickly drank a potion to recover my health.
I immediately decided to retreat from this level. I went up the stairs from the pit and retreated to the stairs of the upper level.
I saw four of them, but that doesn’t mean that was all of them.
It was possible that even more Black Death Knights were swarming up from below as part of an “invasion”.
The Black Death Knight is not an enemy that appears so many times, even on the 14th floor.
I know that I should abandon the common sense of Genocide Reality from when it was just a game.
Should I think of monsters as swarming, thinking players?
As I was thinking this, a black object fell in front of me.
The Black Death Knight followed me and jumped into the pit. Jumping into a trap by itself is something no monster has ever done before.
“You’re taking it this far?”
The robust and silent Black Death Knight seemed almost unaffected by the fall damage. It stood up and thrust its sword toward me.
What I felt was not fear.
It was a powerful anger.
What a provocation, as if it were tormenting me. It had been breaking the rules and catching me off guard since earlier.
If you’re going to do that, I’m going to do everything I can to cheat you.
“Don’t underestimate a retro gamer!”
I discarded the empty potion bottle and clenched a handful of gems from my backpack while shouting.
“Ro Fuu Gol Neta (Beginner Barrier Creation Release).”
A pale translucent wall appeared in front of the Black Death Knight.
This is a beginner-level Wall spell. The strength of the created wall wasn’t that strong, and it would be easily destroyed if it was attacked. So, I layered it multiple times.
This way, I temporarily stopped its movements, preparing for the next step.
I grabbed some gems from my backpack, serving as mana potions, and cast a new spell.
“Midor Fuu Wa Rosu (Intermediate Time Dilation Release).”
It failed. It’s a mid-level spell from the Quick school, after all.
However, I had plenty of mana in the form of gems.
I’ll keep trying until it works!
“Midor Fuu Wa Rosu.”
Success, again.
“Midor Fuu Wa Rosu.“
Failure. Again.
“Midor Fuu Wa Rosu.”
Success. Again!
“Midor Fuu Wa Rosu.”
After a couple of quick spells, I obtained an advanced rank quick up.
At that moment, the Black Death Knight in front of me, who had been moving sluggishly, was just breaking through the transparent wall.
He raised his black sword to strike me, but….
“Too slow!”
By the time the Black Death Knight swung his sword down, I had already turned to the side.
“Take this!”
I swung ‘Solitude’ with all my might in a wide arc.
With my warrior rank, I couldn’t deliver strong damage in a single blow. But I could keep hitting it repeatedly.
“You goof, you look like you’re stopped!”
Finally, when he raised his black death sword toward me, I had already struck him five times. The black steel armor on his torso had been severely dented.
The Black Death Knight swung his sword down again sluggishly, but I dodged it without difficulty. Since our speeds are so different, there is no way he can hit me.
“You’ll regret chasing after me!”
It’s bad enough that I let him take me seriously. I’m one of only three strategy site administrators in Japan. I can recite all the magic that should be impossible to know at this stage.
I can do any number of cheats to upset the balance of the game if I want to!
I wanted to do it fair and square without any auxiliary magic in order to train my warrior rank, but there was no time to talk about warrior spirit and fair play if they went this far.
The enemy had used impossible auxiliary magic first, so why should I not use it too?
I hit the slow-moving Death Knight, from left to right until he was beaten to a pulp.
“Haah, haah…”
Beneath my feet, the shattered black armor lay in a heap. It was good that I defeated him, but I couldn’t do this repeatedly.
Health and stamina can be restored with potions, but my fatigue is near its limit. I had to take a break at some point.
The gems I had kept to give to Nanami’s group, thinking they might come in handy, turned out to be unexpectedly useful like this.
No, that’s not it… It’s the fact that I, who possess complete strategy knowledge, have been cornered to this extent, that I couldn’t have imagined.
The situation has already gone beyond the stage of enjoying the game.
Well, if they’re going to come at me with an anything-goes attitude, then I’ll do the same.
I clutched a new gem, cast a defense-boosting support spell on myself, and chanted the Quick spell as I ascended the staircase from the pit to the Corridor of Flames
The Black Death Knights, who had been lying in wait in the corridor, launched their attack, but they were too slow.
I held my ‘Solitude’ high in the air and ran past them, slamming it horizontally into the enemy in front of me.
There was another one further ahead, but I created a transparent wall to hold him back.
With the multiple ‘Quick Up’ spells I had cast, my speed was unmatched by the slow pace of the enemy.
And so, I escaped from the eighth floor, which had become a den of Black Death Knights, and returned to the upper level.
Eventually, I intend to crush them all, but in order to do so, I will have to get even stronger.
Besides, for now, I had to deal with this unusual situation first.
The individual Black Death Knights only attacked mechanically, but I sensed a clear intent in their collective movements.
They were ‘invading’ the upper floors in violation of the rules of Genocide Reality. No, it would be more accurate to call it an offensive.
The evil will rising from the depths of the dungeon might bring new danger to all the humans in Genocide Reality.
Driven by a bad premonition, I quickened my pace as I headed toward the upper floors.
