How Could He Possibly Like Me? - Chapter 1.2
There was just one problem that needed to be solved before leaving…
Thinking of this, Meng Shuyu watched the video sent by Chen Xing again.
Just as she was pondering about how to deal with this matter, her phone buzzed, as Jian Cheng sent her a message
[Shu Yu, are you off work yet? I don’t have to work the night shift tonight. Do you want to go out for a midnight snack? If so, I’ll pick you up.]

Three minutes later, in a round-table box in the Zhilan Hall of the Xiangting Hotel, Jian Cheng stood up abruptly amidst a chorus of talk and laughter.
Several men at the table were discussing where to go next, but they all stopped and looked at him in surprise.
“What’s wrong?”
Jian Cheng stood in front of his seat, staring at the words on his phone screen.
[Okay, I happen to have something to tell you.]
It took him a while to regain his composure before he rose his head and replied.
“Sorry, I have to leave first. You guys have a good time.”
“Is there an emergency?”
Someone next to him asked.
“No, personal matters.”
Jane Cheng used tea instead of wine to toast the man in the honored position and drank it all in one go.
” Zhou Jun, I’ll catch up with you later when I have the chance.”
Zhou Jun turned the blue and white porcelain cup in his hand and nodded.
The man next to him, however, did not let go and tugged on Jian Cheng’s arm.
“What personal matter? Sister Meng? I haven’t seen you bring someone out for a few days, you should just invite her over.”
” Next time. She just finished working overtime, she’s probably exhausted.”
Jian Cheng left the room’s laughter behind as he walked out of the box over to the parking lot and got into his car, when he suddenly heard a knock on the car window.
Jian Cheng lowered the window and unexpectedly saw Zhou Juan.
Before he could ask, Zhou Juan got straight to the point.
“Could you give me a ride? I’m going to Yongyi’s headquarters too.”
“No problem, you still have a meeting? No wonder you’re wearing formal clothes tonight…”
Jian Cheng unlocked the car door, before realizing there was something wrong.
“How did you know I was going to Yongyi to pick someone up?”
“The others mentioned it.”
Zhou Juan draped his suit jacket over his arm, walked around to the passenger seat, opened the car door, and lowered his gaze.
Jian Cheng was about to move the huge bouquet of red roses on the seat when the car door was closed again.
Zhou Juan walked to the back seat without saying a word.

Near the subway station closest to Yongyi headquarters, Meng Shuyu stood on the roadside with her commuting bag and looked at the overcast sky.
She didn’t really plan to go for supper with Jian Cheng, but the entrance to the company was not a good place to talk, so she chose here to meet Jian Cheng, thinking about taking the subway home after saying what she needed to say, however, the weather at the end of summer was unpredictable.
Remembering that she had just washed her hair this morning, Meng Shuyu touched her long hair at the back of her head, and a wave of annoyance welled up.
But when she thought that this might be a chance for her to say ‘breakups always happen on rainy days’, she thought it would be for the best.
Before the rain fell, a familiar SUV stopped in front of her.
Jian Cheng got down from the driver’s seat, closed the car door, and spoke to her with a smile.
“Have you been waiting long?”
Meng Shuyu shook her head, and slowly approached in a good mood.
“Jian Cheng, I know everything.”
Jian Cheng was stunned.
“What?”
Meng Shuyu took out her phone and pressed the play button, then pointed the screen towards Jian Cheng like she was showing a police ID.
Jian Cheng lowered his head, eyes widening when he saw the video clearly.
” Shuyu, this isn’t… What you think it is…”
Meng Shuyu sighed.
“You don’t need to be nervous. The two of us were originally just friends, you have complete freedom to love whoever you want, I’m not here to raise hell.”
Jian Cheng looked dumbfounded.
“No, you’ve got it all wrong. The person in this video is my cousin.”
Meng Shuyu choked.
It’s already a quarter of the way through the 21st century, how could someone still speak such nonsense?
“I’m not unwilling to part amicably, you don’t have to make up such excuses to deceive me. If you’re worried about facing opposition from your family, we can discuss a suitable explanation. Thank you for taking care of me up to this point…”
As Meng Shuyu was talking, she saw Jian Cheng’s eyes dimming, feeling something amiss, she paused.
“Shuyu, you ran into this kind of thing and still came to discuss how to make things right with me, it’s because you don’t like me at all, that’s why you’re not sad at all, right?”
Meng Shuyu was caught off guard by this wave of counterattacks. After a beat, she immediately regained the upper hand, and with a small smile she spoke.
“Things have already turned out this way, what’s the point of me being sad? Besides, this video was from a week ago, no matter how sad someone is, they will eventually get over it, right?”
Meng Shuyu was just saying whatever she felt was necessary to deal with the situation, but those words had a different meaning for Jian Cheng, so he began probing further.
“You mean, you saw this video a long time ago? Recently, you kept saying you don’t have time and have to work overtime, but you were actually angry with me?”
“…”
Seeing that she was silent and seemed to be contemplating his words, Jian Cheng’s face burst into joy
“You could’ve just asked me about this earlier. This is really my very close cousin. That day, she asked me to play along with her in order to get rid of a male colleague who’d been stalking her for a long time.”
“?”
“I’m being honest. Uncle Meng also knows this cousin of mine, I’ll call him now.”
“…”
There wasn’t even any thunder in the gloomy sky, but Meng Shuyu felt like she’d been struck by it anyways because she was so stunned.
