19. The Abyssal Battle (Part One)
The gentle sunlight was obscured by dark clouds.
A fresh breeze carrying a hint of bloodiness infiltrated the nostrils, stirring up the dust and disturbing the chaotic airflow.
It was as if the whole world had turned dark and cold.
“Little Sil…”
Behind me, Aria hesitated to speak.
“Aria, retreat. I will go find you all.” I quickened my pace without looking back, “Now, go.”
I was acutely aware of the churning and restlessness of the abyssal presence not far away, as well as the sense of belonging etched into my bones like bloodlines. I forcefully suppressed the inexplicable throbbing in my heart.
“Aria, listen to Sister… Sil, you guys hurry up and go. Don’t worry, I’ll go with her.”
Barry stepped forward as he spoke.
“Barry! Don’t come over!”
“Little Sil…”
“It’s coming, you guys hurry…”
“Silvija! I’m telling you, no matter who you really are, I, Barry, will not abandon…”
“Boom—”
Barry’s words were cut off by a sudden thunderous noise from afar. The ground beneath our feet trembled again, and countless familiar black dust clouds rose into the sky at the end of our sight, exploding like fireworks, reaching high into the sky, and then suddenly converging into a huge black smoke ball.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”
As the gathering dust increased, the density of the smoke ball grew thicker, and in the blink of an eye, it solidified, raining down a black cascade from above, like a deathly black sun replacing the sun obscured by the clouds, hanging high in the sky.
Barry stared at the apocalyptic scene with dry eyes, swallowing hard, and the big talk he had planned to say never came out.
Then a voice came from the sky.
“[Abyssal Language] I… am… who… what is this… I am… I… clearly… I… ah… hehehe… I am… the will of God… I am… the Endless Abyss… slay.”
At the beginning of the voice, there was a hint of confusion, as if trying to confirm something.
But then it quickly turned cold and emotionless, as if something had swallowed it up.
Like abandoning the soul.
I hadn’t had time to ponder the meaning of this when the next moment, a howling wind hit me head-on.
“Boom—!!! Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”
Countless giant black blades flew out from the smoke ball, sweeping across miles, carrying out a destructive indiscriminate attack.
“Boom boom boom boom boom—!!”
The blades, carrying the wind, scattered and smashed into the ground, like powerful missiles, the muffled explosions were endless, and the earth, stones, and vegetation were scattered in the air in an instant.
“Oh my God…”
Someone let out a desperate exclamation. At the same time, a blade flew straight towards me.
My pupils contracted, and as I took a deep breath, my left hand lit up with a starry blue glow.
“Ha—!”
With a forceful swing of my small hand forward.
“Bang—crack crack crack!!”
With a series of crisp sounds, a huge ice wall rose from the ground, blocking the black blade at the last moment.
The ice wall stood like a small mountain, and even from a distance, one could feel the bone-chilling cold. The scattered frost turned into tiny ice flakes, frosting the eyebrows and hair of the villagers.
However, this power, beyond their understanding, was nothing more than a futile effort in front of the blade.
“Crack—!”
The black blade, with an unstoppable momentum, easily penetrated the hard ice, its force undiminished.
My mind was highly concentrated, and everything around me seemed to be covered in a layer of slow motion, like in a movie.
The moment I saw the ice wall crack, my body reflexively prepared to dodge.
Then I glanced back.
Aria, Barry, Allen, and all the villagers. Their eyes were wide and their mouths agape, unable to react, their faces filled with fear, waiting for death to come.
I gritted my teeth and stopped.
Thin black smoke rose from beneath my feet and palms, wrapping around the large scythe in my hand.
All of this happened in an instant.
In Aria’s eyes, the usually gentle and seemingly easy-to-bully little Sil looked back at her with a stern expression she had never seen before, raised the sickle used for farming in her hand, and turned to face that terrible force.
“Clang—!!!”
The wind raged, and sand and stones flew.
The sound of metal clashing seemed to tear the eardrums.
The whole world was dyed black, and the giant blade seemed to swallow me up entirely.
At that moment, I felt as if I were a mere mortal body facing the impact of a truck. The unstoppable force made my small frame slide backward uncontrollably, scraping a long, deep mark on the ground beneath me, and I was about to crash into the people behind me.
“Ah—!!!”
I let out a roar of anger, straining to lift the scythe in my hand upward.
“Whoosh—”
The blade narrowly missed everyone’s heads as it flew past, like lightning streaking toward the distance.
I took a deep breath, glanced at the deep notch on the back of the scythe, and felt my right hand tremble slightly.
“Quick! Go! I can’t protect you all!!!”
“Gulp.”
Barry swallowed hard behind me.
The big talk he had failed to voice earlier was now nowhere to be found.
“Run! Hurry up! Don’t trouble little Sil anymore!!”
His eyes were filled with a crimson hue, whether from guilt for holding us back or from the fear of having narrowly escaped death.
“Run!!!”
The villagers finally snapped out of their daze, picking up those who couldn’t move and running with all their might.
“Little Sil!!!” Aria shouted at me, “We’ll wait for your return!! You are! My sister!! You must… come home!!”
The girl’s cry was more resolute than ever. I turned back to look at her, nodding slightly.
Yes, I will.
Even though the place we called home was now in ruins.
Watching them finally move away from the battlefield.
“[Abyssal Language]… Slay.”
The demon’s whisper echoed in my ears once more.
“[Abyssal Language] I’ll slay your father!!!”
The still somewhat childish voice of a girl roared without any intimidation.
But beneath her feet, a towering ice pillar erupted.
During my time in the village, of course, I hadn’t just been a simple village girl. I had never slackened in my practice of wielding power. For now, setting aside the black smoke, I could say that I was quite adept at wielding the power of frost.
Using the force of the ice pillar, I leaped nearly twenty meters into the air, tracing a parabola in the sky, and immediately erected another ice pillar where I landed. In this way, I kept using the force of the erupting ice pillars to rapidly close the distance to the smoke ball.
The Endless Abyss did not release those terrible blades again but somehow summoned a large number of humanoid monsters with blades for limbs.
These monsters were pitch black, and although they had human forms, their bodies were so twisted they didn’t resemble humans at all. They roamed the village, some even unable to walk properly, but always able to swiftly reap life at the first sight of it.
Pale white lights floated up from the ground and into the smoke ball.
So this is what the Abyss is like.
Wherever it went, everything was annihilated, not even souls were spared.
Anger invaded my heart, and my eyes turned blood red.
I dove toward the ground, landing precisely in front of one of the monsters, the nearly two-meter-long scythe raised high.
A flash of cold light passed.
The monster’s head soared into the sky, turning into black dust in an instant.
“Clang—”
Without a moment’s pause, the giant scythe danced again in my hands, and Grandma Claire’s words echoed in my mind.
“Small steps, firm stance, bend at the waist, grab with the left, sweep with the right. Strike quickly, cut steadily.”
As easy as reaping wheat, with each swing of the scythe, at least one monster was taken down.
These little things posed no threat to me.
But there were just too many of them.
I dared not unleash my Frost World here, for it would kill all the villagers still alive.
Is there no other way…
“Help, somebody help!!”
Hearing a loud cry for help not far away, I threw down the head of a monster in my hand, leaped up on an ice pillar, and saw that it was Ryan.
He was being chased by two monsters, desperately running for his life.
Without hesitation, I twisted in mid-air and shot down like a cannonball.Support me: https://ko-fi.com/mmmmmmwater
