21. The Abyssal Battle (Part Three)
……To catch the thief, first catch the king!
I stared at the distant black sun hanging high in the sky, a contemplative expression on my face.
Hmm, it’s about a hundred meters above the ground, not an unreachable height.
Those weird-looking little monsters, although individually very weak, are numerous and have already scattered throughout the village. Without a sizable army, they can’t be dealt with. If I keep killing them like this, the monsters will slaughter the villagers before I can finish them off.
And who knows if that guy in the sky will summon another wave, this is all meaningless.
……I can’t worry about that now, I’m only one person, I have to pull that guy down from the sky first.
With my decision made, I urged the ice beneath my feet to extend towards the position of the black sun, dodging two blades before sprinting along the ice.
At full strength, a hundred meters is but a moment’s distance.
Fifty meters… thirty meters… twenty meters… ten meters!
Several trails of black smoke rose from my body, wrapping around the frost-covered scythe. The dual protection of frost and the Abyss ensured maximum output from the weapon.
“Whew—”
With a deep breath, I leaped towards the black sun, raising the scythe and swinging it down with all my might.
“Swish—”
I easily tore a huge gap in the black sun, and terrifying black smoke billowed out from the gap, engulfing my body in an instant.
If it were a human, they would probably be devoured completely.
Too bad, this move is useless against me!
Rather, being enveloped in black smoke gives me a sense of security, like returning home, and it feels very comfortable.
“Clang clang—”
A cold light flashed in my hand again.
Huh, something’s strange…
…Something’s wrong! There’s no sensation of hitting a solid object!!
A bad premonition rose in my heart, and I instinctively placed the scythe across my chest.
“【Abyssal Language】Slay.”
The whisper was close to my ear.
The next moment, countless blood-red tentacles stretched out from the gap in the black sun.
“Meow…”
“Bang!”
I was cut off mid-curse and began to fall rapidly.
The speed of the fall was very fast, getting faster and faster. The intense sensation of weightlessness even made me feel the urge to pee, this was much more thrilling than bungee jumping.
This is from a height of over a hundred meters!!
It’s over, it’s over, I’m going to die…
I closed my eyes in fear, curled up, and hugged my head, trying my best to stir up the black smoke in the air, wrapping my body tightly inside, waiting for the impact to come.
“Boom—!!”
I was like a black meteor with a tail of fire, crashing into a half-collapsed house. The moment I hit the ground, I sank into it without the bounce I had imagined.
The huge impact left me with a momentary blank in my consciousness, my ears buzzing non-stop, as if my soul had left my body and I couldn’t feel anything.
It felt like a century had passed, or maybe just two seconds. My senses gradually returned, followed by the sound of collapsing objects.
The half-remaining house suddenly collapsed, burying me under a mess of stones and wood chips.
“……Ugh… Ah—!! Cough, cough…”
The dust made me cough continuously, and I felt a tearing pain in my waist. The weight on my body made it hard to breathe, and I felt the urge to cry.
It hurts, it’s uncomfortable, I want Grandma Claire’s hug.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”
Suddenly, there was the sound of something cutting through the air.
I was startled and immediately urged the power of frost again.
Now was not the time to be sentimental.
“Crack—”
Ice spikes rose from the ground, breaking through the weight and pushing me to the side, and I rolled away in a panic.
“Boom boom boom—!!”
Before I could roll far, three huge black blades smashed down, and the hurricane they brought up once again lifted my small body into the air.
“Ah—”
My body drew a beautiful arc in the air. I flailed my arms in panic, trying to adjust my landing posture.
But it was in vain.
“Thud.”
A muffled sound, my head hit the ground first.
“Ugh!!”
The moment I landed, I got up with a roll. Holding my little head, I rubbed it vigorously, tears welling up in my eyes, and I whimpered softly.
That hurt a lot, I felt a big bump swelling on my forehead.
My eyes were red with anger as I glared at the sky.
Why.
We all come from the Abyss.
But why! Why can you fly!!!
“【Abyssal Language】Slay.”
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”
The huge black blades came at me again.
“【Abyssal Language】Slay, slay, slay, so annoying!!!”
Hmph… Is that the only trick you have?!
Once more, ice pillars burst from the ground, propelling me a dozen meters into the air.
Still not enough.
I pointed my toes downward.
“Crack!”
This time, the ice pillars formed out of thin air, and my body leaped another dozen meters upward.
“Whoosh— Whoosh—”
Blades kept flying out from the black sun, and as I desperately dodged, I created more ice pillars to send myself higher.
A sharp pain shot through my waist, but I clenched my teeth and bore it.
I was now less than twenty meters from the black sun.
I held my breath, releasing dense black smoke to wrap around my body again.
Still not enough, the density was too low. Compress… compress… compress more…
“Boom.”
The black smoke swirling around me condensed into a ball glowing with white light, like a fiery arrow, I crashed into the black sun once more.
“Thump.”
There was no grand noise as I expected, and I easily broke through.
I’m in! A surge of joy in my heart, I reached out with my left hand and grabbed the creature hiding inside.
“Ahh—!!”
“Rumble—!!”
The black flames on my body suddenly exploded, and a blinding white light filled the space.
The black sun had no resistance against this explosion and was instantly dispersed.
I finally pulled that creature out of the black sphere, falling together with it.
Mid-air, I held tightly to the monster’s arm, raising my right hand with the sickle and bringing it down fiercely.
“Clang—”
The massive recoil numbed my entire arm.
“Aow—!!”
The monster roared in anger, sprouting countless tentacles that wrapped around me and tightened.
“Ahh—!!!”
The frost chilled the tentacles, creating a fine layer of frost and lessening their grip on me.
I freed my right hand again, putting all my strength into it, and the large scythe repeatedly struck the monster.
“Clang— Clang— Clang— Crack—”
Finally, the blade cut through, but the scythe broke, its blade stuck in the monster’s chest.
I discarded the useless handle, balled my fists, and pounded the monster’s ugly, dog-like face.
One punch, then another.
I remembered Uncle Doyle’s hearty laughter.
“Thump, thump, thump…”
You damn creature!!!
We crashed into the ground outside the village.
“Boom—!!”
When we hit the ground, I intentionally used the monster as a cushion, smashing the ground into cracks.
And I was once again thrown several meters away.
“Cough cough…”
I coughed up blood.
Half of my body was scraped, and my insides felt like they had shifted.
I lay on the ground, trembling uncontrollably.
The two high falls had left me severely injured, and I was now in too much pain to move.
Was that creature dead?
“Aowu!!!”
The monster seemed unharmed, quickly rising into the air; only then did I see its full form.
Its upper body was wrapped in thick black smoke, with familiar black armor showing through. Its wolf-like head had two large horns, and its lower body was all blood-red tentacles, twisting and writhing, making my skin crawl.
“【Abyssal Language】We of the same Abyss, what are you doing? Why do you obstruct us here?”
The monster didn’t attack me right away but tried to communicate.
Good, I’ll try to stall for time, waiting for my body to regain the ability to move.
“【Abyssal Language】Cough cough… Why kill? Why kill people?”
“【Abyssal Language】We, following the will of the gods, correct the order of the world.”
?????
“【Abyssal Language】What… are you talking about?”
“【Abyssal Language】We, only follow the will of the gods.”
“【Abyssal Language】… The will of the gods? CNM, you’re killing innocent people!!!”
“【Abyssal Language】Are you saving these inferior beings… Foolish emotional bonds.”
When the conversation went nowhere, the monster gave up on talking to me, raising its withered right hand.
It’s over. I should have gone along with its words, why did I have to be so stubborn!
I struggled to prop myself up, desperately trying to stand.
It’s not over yet, not over yet!
If I die here, then Aria, Barry, Grandma from the next town, and everyone living in this area, they’re all doomed.
“【Abyssal Language】Slay.”
As if pronouncing a death sentence.
The next moment, a searing white light erupted in the distance, and a thick beam of light instantly engulfed the monster’s body.
“Roar—!!!”
The beast’s roar shook the heavens, and I turned my head to look, a surprised shout escaping my lips.
“Big White!”
