I Come From the Abyss to Save Humanity Today - Volume 1 Chapter 23
23. The Abyssal Battle (Part Five)
Two full-powered releases, a direct hit without any reservation.
I believe that no matter how powerful or terrifying the monster is, as long as it still falls within the category of a living being, low temperatures will cause it great damage. Even if it has a physique as strong as the legendary dragons, once frozen, its flesh will become hard and brittle, losing its toughness. At this time, if it is subjected to another violent impact, it will shatter immediately.
Fighting with a fellow monster that crawled out of the Abyss, we both lose the most terrifying but also the most effective means of attack, which is the devouring nature of the black smoke.
That stuff is useless to either of us.
And my power of frost, there are not many means to cause effective damage to the monster quickly. The ice mist works quickly against small monsters, but it’s a struggle in front of a BOSS. The abyss can devour everything, which naturally includes the chill, just as I devour the overwhelming fireballs. Even if I release the Frost World here directly, it won’t have much impact on that guy in a short time.
Moreover, now that I’ve lost my weapon, relying solely on the hardness of the ice, I can’t pierce the opponent’s defense.
Unless I can burst out a huge amount of energy at once, so that it doesn’t have enough time to release enough black smoke to counteract.
Or, wait for it to exhaust its strength.
“Ha—ha—”
The two attacks consumed a huge amount of energy, and my small chest heaved violently.
Black fog and ice crystals still danced in front of my eyes.
Is it dead?
Just as the thought emerged, a large hand suddenly stretched out in my vision, grabbing my delicate neck.
“Aoao—!!!”
An angry roar sounded. With icy blue smoke rising from its body, the dog face with even more broken armor lifted me up through the remnants of the black flame explosion.
“Ou—cough, cough…”
The feeling of being grabbed by the throat was quite uncomfortable. I uncontrollably spat out a small fragrant tongue, and my feet kicked wildly in the air.
Desperately wanting to release another burst of chill, I was shocked to find that I couldn’t muster any strength.
Two seconds later, I couldn’t even cough. The grip on my neck grew tighter and tighter, making it impossible for me to breathe.
Struggling with the last bit of strength, I formed a sharp icicle in my hand and slashed three times at the black, skeletal-like thin arm.
It barely broke the skin, not painful or itchy.
“Crack.”
The icicle shattered. My hands fell powerlessly, and a long, crystal-clear drool trailed from the corner of my mouth. I was starting to roll my eyes.
“Roar—!!”
The roar of Big White mixed with gusts of wind came from behind, and its huge claws swept towards the monster.
“Ao—”
The monster retreated sharply to avoid the deadly claw, then threw me up into the air like trash, towards Big White.
To it, Big White was a bigger threat than I was.
“Hula hula hula—”
The whistling in my ears was incessant, unable to distinguish whether it was the air rushing past my eardrums or the cloak fluttering in the wind. The brief lack of oxygen to my brain left my consciousness severely scattered, feeling only my body violently breaking free from gravity and flying high, then slowing down more and more, more and more slowly. Finally, after a brief pause… I began to fall.
I have to… do something.
Thinking so, my limbs were as soft as if they were made of mud, completely powerless.
Just falling down like this.
“Bang—!”
The third high-altitude fall, and everything went black before my eyes.
I don’t know how long it took before I opened my eyes again.
Buzz—
The ringing in my ears mixed with dizziness made me shake my little head incessantly, and it took a long time to come to my senses.
“Uh… cough, cough… ptooey.”
My mouth was full of dust and debris, and I spat out a mouthful of blood. Disheveled hair clung to my face in strands, and I struggled to lift my hand to push it away, feeling a sticky touch. Opening my palm, I saw a patch of blood red.
I must have hit my head when I fell.
I trembled trying to get up, but a slight movement in my calf sent a piercing pain through my bones.
“Hu—, hu—”
I lay on the ground, breathing with difficulty.
What a miserable sight, I thought.
But… I must kill it here.
Struggling to raise my head, I saw in the distance on the vast land, the monster and Big White engaged in a breathtaking melee. The immense force shook the nearby ground into pits and craters, and amidst the air mixed with flying soil and black smoke, a scorching white light flashed from time to time.
Big White, with its massive size, clearly had an absolute advantage in strength, its swinging claws seemed to tear the heavens and the earth apart. In comparison, the monster was only the size of Big White’s head, seemingly crushable with one foot, yet its figure was incredibly agile, constantly diving at Big White from the air, never engaging in a prolonged fight, while continuously releasing large amounts of black smoke.
Although Big White seemed to have some resistance to this, it would still suffer serious erosion over time. Large patches of white fur fell off its back, revealing skin that had already ulcerated, and the wounds were shocking.
Despite Big White’s still high fighting spirit and no signs of fatigue, the situation was already very unfavorable.
“【Abyssal Language】Slay.”
Hearing this voice again, my heart tightened, knowing the blade was coming.
I couldn’t help but sweat for Big White.
The next moment, however, I saw the floating monster raise its arms high above its head. That posture reminded me of the image of an evil cultist offering a heart to a dark god.
Black smoke from all directions began to gather above its head, and the black sun appeared again.
“Buzz… buzz… buzz…”
Big White raised its head and opened its mouth again.
“Boom—!!”
A blazing light burst forth.
At the same time, the black sun exploded like fireworks, turning into countless smoke balls shooting towards the ground.
“Bang bang bang bang bang—”
The smoke balls collided with the ground, bursting into a series of splendid black smoke flowers, and numerous eerie figures emerged.
“Clang—, scrape—”
The little monsters, using blades as limbs, twisted their bodies and surged towards Big White from all directions.
The monster twisted in the air, narrowly avoiding the beam shot by Big White, and with the summoned little monsters, launched another charge, adding several new wounds to Big White.
“Roar—!!”
Big White swung its huge claws angrily, each strike bringing up many limbs of the monsters, each foot grinding several monsters into ash. Yet more monsters took advantage of the attack intervals to approach, overwhelming Big White with their vast numbers.
I watched the scene before me, like ants shaking an elephant.
Big White cannot fall, I must act now or never.
I bit my silver teeth, stretched out my right hand, and clenched my open fingers suddenly.
… Frost World.
The air turned cold abruptly.
A thin mist began to rise from my body.
In the next instant, within the range of my sight, whether it was vegetation or rocks, or those monsters that were ferocious a moment ago, all were enveloped in a fine layer of frost.
The world turned a snowy white.
As the temperature dropped further, more and more ice crystals floated in the air, emitting a faint ice-blue color, sparsely dotting this pure white world.
The whole process did not exceed five seconds.
Those monsters surrounding Big White, their fierce attacks suddenly became sluggish, their movements stiffened, until they froze into shiny ice sculptures.
It’s done.
“Ha—ha—”
A deep fatigue hit me, signaling that my physical energy was overdrawn, and my eyelids began to fight each other.
“Roar—!!!”
Big White shook off the ice debris covering it, walked out from among the ice sculptures, and exhaled a large puff of white mist with each breath.
Thank goodness, it’s alright.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
This was actually a gamble, betting that Big White could withstand the power of the frost. The first time I met it, I accidentally attacked it with an icicle, but it had no effect, so I believed in Big White’s defensive ability, which definitely wouldn’t be worse than that monster’s.
I won the bet.
Next, as long as Big White can hold the monster for a while longer, I will have the chance to use my last strength to counter-kill it.
Unfortunately, plans can’t keep up with changes.
“【Abyssal Language】Slay.”
The sound of cutting wind sounded in the air again, and the black blade flew over Big Whites head, heading straight for me.
I desperately rolled to the side. At this moment, my body seemed to have gone numb, and the pain was much less.
Damn, does it want to kill me first because I’m weaker?
Looking up, the monster indeed left the furious Big White and flew towards me at high speed.
“Roar—”
Big White tried to stop the monster, but couldn’t keep up with its speed at all, and was left behind in an instant.
I staggered to my feet, my black eyes staring dead at it.
The monster twisted in the air, completing two rotations, and revealed its sharp claws to me.
“Swish—”
But it swung at empty air.
I had already leaped into the sky, reaching out with both hands to grab the monster’s two horns, and with a flip, I landed firmly on its back.
Now I’ve got you again.
The ice fog rose at the moment of landing.
“Aoao—!!!”
Immediately, countless tendrils entwined around me.
The next moment, a storm of icicles erupted, encasing half of the monster’s body in ice.
The monster’s figure halted sharply in mid-air, its altitude dropping suddenly, barely able to circle at low altitude. It struggled desperately, trying to shake me off.
No chance!
I clenched my teeth and held onto the horns for dear life, channeling all my power of frost.
The monster’s struggles grew weaker, and the area covered by frost on its body expanded. That rich abyssal aura was fading, was it finally running out of strength?
Gradually, it could no longer release even a wisp of black smoke and began to descend with me.
“Thud!”
Dirt and stones flew, mixed with countless shards of ice.
At the moment of impact, the monster’s half-frozen tendrils and right arm shattered due to the inertia, and it slid a considerable distance forward before coming to a complete stop.
…Finally, it was over.
Sunlight broke through the clouds and poured down.
Blood trickled down my cheeks, staining my dress with large patches of bright red.
Where have I fallen… it seems to be inside the village?
Looking around, I saw no sign of Big White.
I really flew quite a distance.
I got off the monster’s back, limping forward a few steps.
My legs gave out, and I was about to collapse.
“Little Sil!!!”
A pair of soft hands caught me.
…Who is it?
Lifting my blurry eyes, I saw a face that had cried itself to the point of collapse.
“Aria…”
