“Oh my little ancestor, why are you so angry?” The manager felt sorry for the new phone and went up to tidy up as usual. “Who upset you this time?”
“It’s that guy with the last name Lin!” After venting, Zhang Xiu Yuan’s mood improved significantly, but he was still indignant. “We were almost done negotiating. He was going to work for me, and all the copyright for the works would belong to me.”
“And then!!!” Zhang Xiu Yuan thought of this matter and got angry again, his tone rising sharply, and his originally elegant and delicate features twisted into an ugly snarl. “This idiot just outright blocked me! Damn it!”
He grabbed something nearby and slammed it onto the ground with a bang. Still not satisfied, he stood up and kicked an innocent chair nearby, sending it flying.
The room was a complete mess.
The manager was also speechless; he couldn’t keep up with Zhang Xiu Yuan’s destructive pace.
Forget it, just let things be.
“So, what did you see that made you so angry?”
“Look.”
Zhang Xiu Yuan was about to hand his phone to the manager when he realized that he had smashed it to pieces during his outburst.
Seeing this, the manager quickly handed over his own phone to prevent Zhang Xiu Yuan from exploding again.
Zhang Xiu Yuan sulked as he opened Lin Su Yan’s music update: “It’s this.”
The manager leaned in closer, seeing the post that read:
[Lin Su Yan: I’m going to participate in an original music competition! I hope to prove myself and won’t let everyone down! *^_^*]
Then came a series of encouragement and support from fans.
The usually cheerful manager suddenly wore a thoughtful expression, but Zhang Xiu Yuan didn’t notice.
He continued to scoff, “I don’t know what this kid used to solve his financial problems, but here in my territory, there’s no way he can just back out of the deal!”
They’d gotten to the final step of negotiating the money, and then he suddenly rejected everything and dared to disappear? Does he really think I’m someone he can easily toy with?
This grudge, I must repay!
“Xiu Yuan, you should participate in this competition too,” the manager suddenly interjected.
“Huh?” Zhang Xiu Yuan turned back, looking at him suspiciously.
What trick is this old man up to now?
The manager was always bowing and scraping, but no one knew better than Zhang Xiu Yuan just how many cruel schemes came from his hands.
He was merely taking advantage of others, while the manager wanted to strip others of their skin.
If he weren’t his nephew, he’d probably have been completely consumed.
“The post said that Lin Su Yan is entering an original music competition. If I’m not mistaken, it should be the ‘Future Golden Melody King’ hosted by the national television station. This competition is quite prestigious. If you can become a popular contestant on the show, the resources you’ll get afterward will be tremendous.” As an industry insider, the manager certainly had his channels for information.
“But you also said it’s an original competition, and my original ability is limited,” Zhang Xiu Yuan frowned.
He valued his reputation greatly, especially after working hard to get to this point. He didn’t want to jeopardize it all now.
If he exposed his true creative level during the competition and people realized that almost none of his works since his debut were created by him, he’d really be losing a fortune over a small gain.
“Don’t worry, I have a plan.”
The manager’s smile widened, and his gaze turned sinister. “This plan will not only boost your fame and allow you to quit the competition with a successful image, but it will also ruin that annoying Lin Su Yan’s chances completely—killing three birds with one stone.”
“Really?”
At first, Zhang Xiu Yuan was hesitant, but after listening to the manager explain the plan, he started to smile.
“Okay, I’ll participate.”
——
Working too long resulted in sore eyes.
Yu Aolan leaned back and rubbed her temples helplessly.
Having been reborn, she couldn’t waste her body like she did in her past life while still young.
If it were before, she wouldn’t have thought twice about a little eye strain; as long as she didn’t faint, she would have to keep working.
It seems her current self needed to value her life much more.
“Buzz… buzz…” Her phone vibrated.
Yu Aolan glanced at the screen casually and picked up, putting it to her ear. “Is there something you need?”
There was a pause on the other end, as if the caller was startled by her directness. “Can’t I call you if there’s nothing urgent?”
The tone sounded somewhat helpless, and Yu Aolan couldn’t help but smile.
There was no way to annoy Cheng Yi without feeling better.
“Sure, sure, sure! What do you want? I happen to be free.”
“I only called because I knew you’d be free, Miss Yu, the busy one.” Cheng Yi pinched his brow and signaled his new secretary to leave.
It was the secretary’s first day, and she wasn’t very competent yet.
Once the office was empty, Cheng Yi relaxed completely, smiling as he continued, “Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival. My mom and dad want you to come for dinner.”
Every holiday, the Cheng family warmly invited Yu Aolan to celebrate together, which was rare among the otherwise emotionally distant elite families.
Being reminded by him, Yu Aolan realized just how quickly the time had passed.
“Okay, I won’t be polite with Uncle and Aunt. I’ll go buy some mooncakes,” she replied obediently.
The Cheng family treated her with great kindness, almost as if she were their own daughter, so Yu Aolan didn’t mind such occasions and always accepted their invitations.
“Why do you have to buy mooncakes?” Cheng Yi said with a wry smile. “After not seeing you for a while, why have you turned so formal? You don’t need to be so polite.”
“I…”
“Alright, there’s already a mountain of mooncakes at home. We have plenty sent over. Instead, I’d rather have you take some home. So don’t overthink it. I also sent a box in your name to Shu Tong.”
Yu Aolan felt a rare rush of embarrassment and was touched by Cheng Yi’s thoughtfulness; she had completely forgotten about the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Since knowing him, he had always been considerate in every detail.
Except for being a bit old-fashioned.
Cheng Yi looked at the time on his watch and said sternly, “Let’s go together. You come to my company first, and I’ll drive you there. The others can all go home to reunite with their families.”
“Okay,” Yu Aolan readily agreed.
After hanging up, Cheng Yi finally had time to process his confusion: This year, Yu Aolan seems a bit different?
In previous years, she was always happy to celebrate with them but felt somewhat gloomy because she couldn’t help but think of her parents and Shu Tong.
But this year, she seemed to have let go, and there was no trace of forced cheerfulness in their conversation.
Has she really come to terms with everything?
It must be said that when it came to matters concerning Yu Aolan, Cheng Yi’s instincts were frighteningly sharp.
