I was reincarnated into a merciless evil noble and stand at the pinnacle of the magical world, wielding control over magic.~ Just when I had given up on having a heroine, she came to me on her own accord~ - Chapter 14: Conversation with Father
Chapter 14: Conversation with Father
A few days had passed since the exchange with the three slave girls.
The setting was my father’s study.
“It’s about you. I wasn’t worried, but it seems you’ve gotten quite close with those girls. I hear you’ve been passionately engaging in mock battles with them. Even the mansion’s maids are gossiping about it… They say you’ve become quite different, Vanitas,” my father remarked.
“Is that a good thing?” I asked.
“Of course, it is. You used to be deaf to any words amidst storms of profanity and violence, but now you treat them politely, even when they give you a light tap on the back,” my father replied.
“I’m not deliberately trying to win their favor,” I said.
“You are different from Vanitas. Even when you act on your desires… there’s no malice. You naturally attract people with your straightforwardness, and they can see that, including those girls. Well, this is all my personal speculation,” my father added, nodding in agreement.
“By the way, what about mother? I haven’t seen her since the day of my proclamation,” I inquired.
For a few days after my declaration, my mother had been staying in her room, feeling down. But now, if we pass each other in the mansion, she’ll at least greet me briefly.
Can I say she’s gotten used to it?
Around two days later, I feel like her attitude suddenly softened.
“Moreover, is she feeling unwell lately? Right after my proclamation, it’s understandable for her to avoid me, but it seems she spends her mornings in her room and often wakes up in the afternoon or evening. When I ask the maids for details, they seem to dodge the question,” I explained.
“Oh, you mean Lavinia. We’ve been making love every night recently. I thought I’d follow your example and live life a little more freely. How does that sound? She is still beautiful and delicate, my wife. Since the birth of our daughters, we haven’t had such moments for a long time… but sometimes I get too excited,” my father said.
“Um… isn’t this going a bit too far!?”
What is this… Is this really my father?
He said he would follow my example, but… could it be that he’s gotten carried away?
“I don’t mind… if you do whatever you like, Father. As long as Mother allows it, it’s fine with me. The Empire used to practice polygamy, after all. I won’t interfere, but… yes, seeking permission would be wise for things to go smoothly, I believe,” I said.
“Vanitas, if you think I’m some frivolous man who indiscriminately goes after women, that’s disrespectful. I also love Lavinia. I would never betray her by fooling around with other women behind her back. However, I do think that turning a blind eye to their feelings would be against the right path. Don’t you agree?” my father asked.
“Yes, Father, you’re right,” I replied.
This is unbelievable… he won’t listen to anything I say.
Should I even call him Vanitas’ father?
It irks me how he’s enjoying his newfound liberation from whatever oppression he was under.
I don’t plan to take matters into my own hands, but I wonder what Mother thinks about this changed version of Father.
…But maybe it’s pointless to even consider that.
“Changing the topic, the magic instructor you requested, Vanitas, has been arranged,” my father said.
“Really!?” I exclaimed.
“He’s currently waiting in another room. Do you want to meet him?” my father asked.
“Of course. Why would you keep him waiting? Isn’t that disrespectful?” I replied.
“It was at their request. They wanted to introduce themselves in their own way. So, let’s call them in now,” my father explained.
He instructed one of the maids in the corner of the room to fetch the instructor.
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
“Master, your guest has arrived,” the maid said.
“Come in,” my father said.
And from behind the maid who opened the door appeared…
“Good morning, Vanny-chan. I came to play,” said someone who looked like my mother.
The gentle and loving expression, the calming voice, everything was exactly the same.
But what stood before us was utterly different from Mother.
