Summary
On the graduation stage, Crown Prince Altobarto shockingly declares his love to Viscountess Polar instead of his fiancée, Duchess Cornelia. The female students react in outrage, unified in a fan pose tilted sharply that conveys “What the hell are you saying?!”.
Ignoring even this symbol of disapproval, Altobarto breaks off his engagement with Cornelia right then and there. Heartbroken, Cornelia closes her fan shred by shred, tilts it solemnly, and brings it to her neck – a fan language pose for “Damn him to death…”.
Young Countess Mirian indifferently observes this messy broken engagement as a mere spectator, thinking “Huh, what drama…”. However, she later somehow receives news that her own engagement has been abruptly called off.
The subtle fan poses that aristocratic ladies use to indirectly express their true feelings prove central in this story of manners, betrayal, and possible revenge.
