Looking Forward to Another World - Chapter 10
One magic and three skills.
For someone who has just received a blessing, this is indeed an extraordinary starting point.
Even Loki, who has brought her Familia to be one of the strongest in Orario over decades in the mortal realm, has only seen such potential in one person before.
This person is Finn Deimne, Loki Familia’s current captain, a Pallum hero known as the “Braver” and one of the rare Level 6 adventurers in Labyrinth City Orario.
Like Riegel, Finn awakened a magic and three skills upon initially receiving his blessing. Now, he possesses two magics and five skills, making him one of the individuals with the most skills in Loki’s knowledge, just one short of reaching the limit in magic.
However, having many magics and skills does not necessarily mean that one is stronger than those with fewer. In Orario, there are beings stronger than Finn, but it all depends on the specific effects of the magics and skills.
Magics and skills vary in strength and usefulness. Awakening to them does not guarantee utility or power enhancement.
But what about the effects of Riegel’s magic and skills?
“This is truly something…”
Loki, with rare openness in his eyes, was captivated by the effects of the magic and skills imprinted on the parchment.
Especially the effect of the skill “Self Redemption” – the ability to independently update Ability Values by consuming corresponding Divine Blood.
“Damn independent updating of Ability Values,” cursed Loki. “Not even gods who have been in the mortal realm for centuries have seen a skill with this effect, have they?”
Never has Loki heard of a mortal child capable of updating their own Ability Values.
Where does this leave the gods, and how do they cope?
After sealing their divine powers, a god’s only role in the mortal realm is to bestow and update blessings.
Riegel, unaware of Loki’s thoughts, was examining his Ability Values.
There’s not much to say about the basic abilities. Due to the recent reception of his blessing, all five categories are at the lowest I-stage, with 0 proficiency.
Proficiency indicates the progress in a particular ability.
0-99 is I, 100-199 is H, 200-299 is G, 300-399 is F, and so on. At 900-999 proficiency, the stage is S.
Generally, it’s believed that the highest stage for basic abilities is S, with a proficiency limit of 999.
To increase the proficiency of a basic ability, one must frequently use that ability.
To increase strength, one must frequently exert force.
To increase endurance, one must frequently endure attacks.
To increase agility, one must frequently speed up and charge.
Similarly, to increase magic power, one must frequently use magic.
The more frequently an ability is used, the more proficiency increases, but the closer one gets to the maximum value of 999 (stage S), the slower the proficiency growth becomes.
It’s said that few people can raise an ability to the highest evaluation of stage S, with even fewer reaching stages A and B.
Of course, Riegel, who knows the original story, is aware that some exceptional individuals can not only reach the highest stage S but even break through this theoretical limit.
“Yes, the original protagonist is a prime example.”
“I wonder if I can break through this limit,” Riegel pondered, focusing most of his attention on his magic and skills.
When he noticed the “Almighty” magic he had awakened, his gaze paused.
“Memory Magic, huh?” Riegel mused sarcastically, “In the end, my only strength is still my memory.”
Clearly, this magic is a manifestation of Riegel’s exceptional memory, the only talent from his past life he takes pride in.
The fact that it manifested as magic is probably related to the original owner of the body Riegel now inhabits, who was a native of the magic world with innate strong magical powers.
The three skills are the crystallization of Riegel’s deep-seated obsessions.
Riegel made a mental note of the effects of these magics and skills for future exploration.
At this point, Loki, having composed himself, spoke again.
“I will use Divine Blood to lock your Ability Values and hide the blessing to prevent others from prying.”
Loki picked up a needle again, pricked his finger, and applied it to Riegel’s back while speaking.
“Also, I must remind you that Ability Values are the greatest secret of those who have received a blessing. Generally, except for the most trusted Familia members and the Chief God, you should not reveal your Ability Values to anyone to avoid having your strength fully understood by malicious individuals.”
Loki’s face turned serious, and he looked earnestly at Riegel.
“Especially you, Riegel. Apart from Familia members, it’s best if you don’t let anyone know about your magic and skills.”
Undoubtedly, Riegel’s magic and skills are exceptionally powerful.
Riegel might need to explore their uses.
That is definitely something that would shock, or even drive certain beings to madness.
Therefore, Loki felt the need to remind Riegel about the significance of this matter.
“I understand,” Riegel assured, well aware of the importance of keeping his abilities a secret. He knew all too well that the things best kept hidden were often the keys to victory.
“You understand well,” Loki said, relaxing his tone and smirking. “But don’t be too cautious. My Familia isn’t just anyone on the street. If anyone dares to attack you, they’d better be prepared to lose more than just their claws.”
With a stroke of his Divine Blood-soaked fingertip, Loki locked Riegel’s Ability Values. They vanished from his back, like ripples disappearing on the water’s surface. Only Loki could unlock them with his Divine Blood, or someone could forcefully breach them through illicit means. However, Riegel pondered that with his skill effects, he might be able to unlock them himself using Loki’s blood. Nonetheless, he had no intention of doing so without necessity.
“Done!” Loki announced, having completed his task, looking as though he had accomplished a great feat.
Riegel got dressed, burned the parchment with his Ability Values on the oil lamp, and then turned to Loki with a question. “When can I go to the Dungeon?”
“Why the rush?” Loki retorted, rolling his eyes. “Are you not tired? You just arrived in Orario today and have already received my Familia’s blessing. You should rest first, get settled, then we can talk about other things. Tomorrow, I’ll have someone show you around the headquarters and introduce you to everyone.”
Riegel’s brow furrowed ever so slightly at this suggestion, but then he relaxed. “Can I take this with me?” he asked, pointing to a decorative short-sword on Loki’s bed.
“You like that one?” Loki asked with a peculiar look. “It’s more of a decorative piece than a weapon. Its value as an art piece far exceeds its utility as a weapon. It’s only good for self-defense.”
“That’s enough for me,” Riegel replied with a slight smile. “I just need something for self-defense. I feel uneasy without a weapon.”
“Alright then,” Loki responded after a moment of scrutiny. “Take it as a welcome gift from me, your Chief God.”
“Thank you,” Riegel said, bowing his head before picking up the short-sword.
After leaving Loki’s divine room, Riegel stepped out of the building, his thoughts on what lay ahead. Loki watched him go, musing to himself about Riegel’s impatient side. “I thought he was a composed kid, but he’s got a bit of impatience in him. Oh well, let him go. Everyone in my Familia carries their own burdens.”
Loki hoped for Riegel’s smooth development and growth as a new member of the Familia.
Meanwhile, Riegel, holding the ornate short-sword, left the Twilight Manor, his eyes set on the city’s center. There stood the Tower of Babel, also known as the Divine Tower, a symbol of Labyrinth City Orario and its most important structure. It served many purposes, the most crucial being the lid of the Dungeon, suppressing its entrance at the tower’s base.
“Yes, that’s the Tower of Babel,” Riegel affirmed to himself, an icy determination in his eyes.
“My time is limited.”
With that, he set off toward the Dungeon, his goal clear in his mind.
