Looking Forward to Another World - Chapter 18 Corrected
Indeed, one can argue that even without developing Basic Abilities like Power, Endurance, Dexterity, and Agility, focusing solely on Magic Power can still yield formidable combat effectiveness, perhaps even more esteemed than close combat skills. Magic, after all, symbolizes supernatural forces and miracles, representing a power beyond the ordinary. Both in terms of prestige and potency, magic is not something that close combat can easily match. Therefore, anyone given the chance would undoubtedly aspire to enhance their Magic Power.
Riegel is no exception. “Having lost the ability to use magic in my original world, now that I have a new opportunity here, it would be a failure on my part not to seize it,” he thought to himself.
The complication, however, lies in the nature of his magic.
“Riegel, your magic doesn’t seem like something you can use just at will, right?” Loki raised this pertinent question.
“True,” Riegel acknowledged with a sigh, reflecting on his own magic.
(Almighty)
– Memory Magic.
– Activates specific magic based on memory.
– Magic strength is determined by (Magic Power).
– Only effective with confirmed magic.
This was the only magic Riegel possessed, a spell of immense potential and versatility, with effects that border on the extraordinary. “Judging by the effects of your magic, you should theoretically be able to cast any spell you’ve memorized, effectively accessing all known magic,” Loki observed, her gaze on Riegel now more akin to looking at a monster. This magic of his was another incredibly outrageous ability.
Throughout history, anyone who has received the Blessing, regardless of their race, could possess up to three magics, with at least one being a guarantee. This is common knowledge. Even the elves, renowned as a magic-oriented race, are limited to three slots for magic upon receiving their Blessing. There’s no possibility of a fourth.
Having only three magic slots doesn’t mean one can only use three types of magic. Some individuals, due to the unique nature of their awakened magic, which can undergo multiple transformations or have multi-stage effects, can utilize more than three magics. For instance, within Loki Familia, two members fall into this category. One can adapt their awakened magic in multiple ways, changing the effect based on the amount of spell incantation. Thus, they can use one magic as three, with their three magics providing nine variations, effectively possessing nine magics. Another member, an elf, has awakened a summoning magic unique to their race. This magic allows them to summon spells used by their kin. In theory, this individual could cast any magic known to elves, surpassing the arsenal of any typical mage.
Riegel, however, has only one awakened magic. Yet, this single magic exhibits potential, versatility, and effectiveness surpassing the aforementioned two members. It allows him to cast any magic in his memory. Meaning, as long as he remembers enough spells, Riegel could potentially use an unlimited number of magics. Isn’t this a remarkably extraordinary ability?
However, as incredible as this magic is, it does have its limitations.
“Your magic, as it currently stands, seems to have two conditions for activation,” Loki noted, holding up two fingers.
“Firstly, you can only cast magics that you have memorized. If you can’t remember a spell, you won’t be able to use it.
Secondly, even if you remember a spell, if you haven’t personally confirmed its effects, you can’t cast it. This means that if you want to use someone else’s magic, they must cast it in front of you, and you must memorize every detail of the casting process, conditions, effects, and power – nothing can be omitted.”
This is the limitation of the (Almighty) magic. Because of this, Riegel is currently unable to use any magic, as he hasn’t personally witnessed any magic being cast in this world. Even if he had seen a spell cast, he would need to remember the detailed process and conditions of its casting. Hence, even though he saw a priest perform a healing spell in his original world, he couldn’t replicate it with (Almighty) due to his lack of understanding of the mysterious rune and chant involved in the spell.
Loki, aware of this issue, pondered and then offered a solution. “This isn’t difficult to resolve. Our Familia has many members who can use magic. If they demonstrate their spells in front of you, and perhaps even teach you, with your memory, you should quickly be able to learn and cast several spells.”
Loki had noticed Riegel’s exceptional memory, which even surprised him. Her suggestion was indeed helpful. To trigger (Almighty)’s effect, there’s nothing more convenient than having someone demonstrate and teach their magic to Riegel.
“Let’s do this,” Loki decided. “When the members who are on an expedition return, I’ll find someone skilled to teach you magic, alright?”
“An expedition?” Riegel’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
“Yes,” Loki grinned. “Most of our ‘kids’ are currently not at home but in Dungeon.”
The Dungeon, the largest mystical place in the world, still has many unexplored areas. The deeper one goes, the larger the floor area and the farther from the surface it gets. This makes it challenging for front-line adventurers to travel easily between Orario and Dungeon. It’s said that traveling from the 1st to the 50th floor takes days just for the journey, and a round trip can easily exceed a week. Hence the concept of an expedition arose.
An expedition typically involves large Familia groups of adventurers, like armies, venturing deep into the Dungeon for exploration and combat. They venture to floors where ordinary adventurers can’t easily reach, fight extremely powerful monsters, step into uncharted floors, and explore the unknown.
Loki Familia , one of the strongest in Orario and a quintessential exploration Familia, focuses on delving into Dungeon to discover and develop uncharted territories for fame and profit. When Riegel joined Loki Familia, the main combatants were on such an expedition, leaving only a handful of lower-tier members at the base.
In other words, when Riegel became a part of Loki Familia, its true powerhouses and prodigies were engaged in fierce battles in the deep, remote caverns of the Dungeon, facing fearsome monsters far beyond Riegel’s current reach.
Thinking about this, Riegel’s heart raced with excitement, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
“Hey, hey, hey, what are you thinking?” Loki, noticing Riegel’s expression, warned, “You’re a Lv.1 rookie. It’s impressive enough that you can handle the upper floors. Don’t even think about joining an expedition. That’s not something you can take part in right now!”
“Is that so?” Riegel looked at Loki, piquing her curiosity.
Loki’s mouth twitched in response. This boy, was he actually considering joining an expedition? Just two days into his Blessing, and he’s already entertaining such dangerous thoughts? There’s something definitely off with this kid. Why does our Familia always attract such problem children? It’s enough to drive a deity to despair!
