Looking Forward to Another World - Chapter 3 : Dimensional Magic Cube
Otherwise, Riegel wouldn’t be lying on this bed but in a grave. The situation was clearly abnormal.
“Being able to hire an assassin capable of infiltrating this mansion means the adversary is not only deeply concealed but also likely possesses a significant status,” Riegel commented with a calmness that belied his role as the target, surprising Yuri.
But Riegel’s point was valid. Infiltrating this place, even if it was just a secondary residence, indicated formidable capabilities. After all, this was where Yuri Frenzel lived. Anyone capable of hiring an assassin of such caliber must possess considerable resources and influence.
“I really wonder what could prompt such a powerful figure to target me,” Riegel mused with a smile to Yuri, seemingly unfazed.
Yuri gazed deeply at Riegel before responding, “I will continue the investigation. In the meantime, you can rest assured and recover here. Don’t be disheartened by your current condition. While rare, there are ways to heal a completely damaged (Gate). I’ll keep an eye out for you. Don’t give up just yet.”
“I won’t,” Riegel replied, his nod neither confirming nor denying his feelings. “Thank you.”
“There’s no need,” Yuri said with a gentle smile, her beauty akin to a blossoming orchid.
After a few more exchanges, Yuri stood up. “I won’t disturb you any longer. Rest well.” With light steps and leaving behind a faint fragrance, she left Riegel’s room.
Watching Yuri leave, Riegel’s thoughts were far from calm. “Who could it be?” He combed through the original owner’s memories, suspecting everyone from nobles to commoners, even folks from his rural past. But no clear suspect emerged.
“The clues are too scarce,” he realized. The original owner’s memories might not be reliable. The mastermind could be someone overlooked or even forgotten by the original owner.
In his past life, Riegel had learned to doubt everyone and never deliberately overlook anyone. His experiences had taught him a critical lesson: “The perpetrator definitely hasn’t given up and will continue targeting me.”
The fact that someone dared to send an assassin into Yuri’s sensitive and protected environment to kill him indicated a strong resolve. This lack of safety was all too familiar to him from his past.
“What kind of person will they send next? Will they be more dangerous than the last? Will Yuri be able to save me in time?” These questions highlighted the instability and danger of his current situation.
Moreover, Yuri’s rescue wasn’t without reason. Without any prior connection to her, the original owner would not have been sheltered for a month. Saving him from near death was already a significant gesture.
Riegel knew he couldn’t rely solely on others for his survival. He needed to find a way to protect himself, especially now when he couldn’t use even the simplest magic due to his damaged (Gate).
Fortunately, Riegel wasn’t entirely helpless. Closing his eyes, he delved into his mind, where he seemed to perceive an object in a sea of consciousness – a shining, dazzling, transparent magic cube.
Connecting to it with his consciousness, Riegel instantly sent a message: (Dimensional Magic Cube, activate.)
