Multiverse Farming System - Chapter 6 - Nice Rice Bro
The wounds on Ya’s face and arms were healing up, closing up. His skin was smooth again, as if he hadn’t been hurt. Ya looked at his woundless arms, and he touched his face.
Surprised, he asked, “What kind of rice is this, Yong? How’d it heal me up?”
Lin Yong smiled. “Magical rice. Don’t think too much about it, and keep this a secret. No one needs to know.”
Ya nodded stiffly. “Got it, Yong.”
Lin Yong carefully snapped up a small mouthful of rice and popped it into his mouth. Gods, it’s delicious. It’s soft, chewy, and has a nice taste to it. The aroma lingers around in my mouth, and is that a hint of sweetness I taste?
The rice was fabulous. Lin Yong had never had anything this marvelous before, but that wasn’t all. Lin Yong felt a small surge of spiritual energy filling his chest when he swallowed that mouthful of rice, and the energy swam across his body.
A wave of warmth covered him. Comfy. Lin Yong was a practitioner of the Power Farming manual, but his spiritual energy didn’t grow at all. He was still stuck on the first level, but if he were to consume purple jade rice on the regular, he should have enough spiritual energy to break through to the next level.
Power Farming Manual had three levels. The first level would only grant the user enough strength for them to cultivate a small field easily.
The second level could grant the user enough power to till and sow a hundred acres of land. That, or the user could tend to and harvest a hundred acres of crop without getting exhausted.
The third level would make the user into a farming machine. They could till and sow a thousand acres of soil without tiring out. Or they could tend to and harvest that amount of crop.
Either way, level three’s power was beyond any human limitations. I don’t recall any humans having that level of stamina or strength, after all.
Even so, Lin Yong was still feeling deflated. Everyone else travels the skies, teleports everywhere, and kills predators with their bare hands. Me? I farm.
He drank spirit water on the daily, but without any manual to cultivate spiritual energy, his body was like a sieve. Any spiritual energy that gets into his body would slowly dissipate into the air. Yes, even the energy in spirit water.
He couldn’t store spiritual energy in his body, but he could store it if he got the energy through purple jade rice. Lin Yong realized that the moment he consumed the rice.
Then he and Ya started wolfing down their food. The pig’s ears were a delight, and the trotters were delicious. The pork belly melted in their mouths right after they ate them.
The greens were spectacular too. Their fresh scent was fused with the aroma of the rice, their flavors dancing and bursting on Lin Yong’s taste buds. He never knew greens could be exploding with flavors.
Lin Yong and Ya were lads with great appetites. And before them was a feast of great food. It didn’t take long for them to clean all the plates before them.
They did the dishes, and Lin Yong excused himself. “Don’t wait up on me, Ya. Clean up the bar and open up shop when it’s time. I’ll shop around and see if I can make enough money to clear the debt.”
Ya nodded. Lin Yong had a plan. Luo Wangfan gave him a million yuan, so he had to cough up another two million for the debt.
I’m born and raised in this city. Besides my college years, I barely ever left this city. I have tons of friends. Should be easy to get two million yuan.
Lin Yong left the bar. First, he sought out his high school friend—Ren Qiang. The guy came from a good family, and he was running a few companies himself. He was the richest guy out of everyone back in high school.
He called Ren Qiang, and they agreed to meet up at Long Island Café under the clock tower. Lin Yong waited for half an hour before his high school friend showed up.
Ren Qiang was a portly man, his face gleaming with grease. He had a big smile hanging from his lips, and he kept apologizing for his tardiness. “Busy life, really.”
Lin Yong didn’t mind. They were buddies in high school. He cut to the chase and told Ren Qiang his grandfather made a loan of three million yuan, and he’d like to borrow two million from Ren Qiang.
Ren Qiang’s smile froze. He then subtly declined, “My company’s cash flow’s not the best lately. I have a debt of thirty million yuan myself. There’s no way I can fork out two million…”
On and on he blabbed, but Lin Yong knew what he was trying to say. The request was met with a refusal, and he was getting disappointed. They were almost desk buddies back in high school. They skipped classes. They had drinking sessions. And they flirted around with girls together.
Back in college, Ren Qiang even fell into depression from the stress of school. Whenever it was summer or winter holidays, Lin Yong would return to the city of Dong’an and stay with Ren Qiang during his darkest moments.
He thought their friendship would last for a long time, and yet Ren Qiang wouldn’t even lend him two million, even though he was a multimillionaire and the boss of a few companies.
In the end, Ren Qiang excused himself with the pretext of another appointment. He was still smiling big when he left.
Lin Yong nodded. He finished his coffee and got up from his seat. Then he sought out a couple more high school classmates and wondered if they could help him with his predicament.
All ended in failure. One, they needed the cash as well, and two, they weren’t that close back in high school. They were worried Lin Yong might run away with their hard-earned money.
Disappointment was piling up fast. Lin Yong thought he could easily borrow two million from his friends, but reality was disappointing. He couldn’t even get 200 thousand, let alone two million.
Frustrated, Lin Yong sought out a guy called Wu Ke. Wu Ke didn’t come from a good family. He had a younger brother and sister, both of whom were still in school. His father was bedridden, and his mother was a factory worker. They didn’t have enough money to raise their younger children.
Ever since Wu Ke was in college, he was the one having to make the money for his younger siblings’ necessities and school needs. When he graduated college, Wu Ke got a programmer job and worked overtime all the time. Still, he only made little more than ten thousand yuan a month.
Lin Yong wasn’t going to borrow any money from him. He just wanted someone to talk to. To let out the frustration cooped up in his heart.
Lin Yong’s sullen mood did not escape Wu Ke. He asked for the whole story, and Lin Yong told him about it. About the debt. About how he couldn’t even borrow any money from his friends.
Wu Ke fidgeted for a while. “I’ve been saving up for years, and my bank account’s grown to three hundred grand. Was going to spend it on my wedding, but if you need it, take it. You can pay me back later.”
Lin Yong teared up a little, and he patted Wu Ke’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it, man. I can get the money. If I have to, I’ll just sell my house back in Longhu. Keep the money. You’ll need it for your marriage.”
He bade goodbye to Wu Ke and left. When he came back to Parasol Avenue, Lin Yong ran into someone he never thought he would, and he started buzzing with excitement.
