My Post-Apocalyptic Shelter Levels Up Infinitely! - Chapter 1 - Doomsday Survival Game
Chapter 1: Doomsday Survival Game
[ Welcome to the Doomsday Survival Game. As you can see, you have all arrived in a strange place. ]
[ Survival is your only objective. To maximize your chances of living, please remember the following keypoints:
1. Disasters are refreshed periodically. All survivors will receive a notice seven days before the next refresh.
2. Do not hastily place your safe house. Finding an appropriate location to set it up can significantly enhance your chances of survival.
3. Danger and opportunity coexist. The wilderness may contain essential survival resources or
dangerous mutant creatures. Defeating these mutants could bring unexpected rewards.
4. Endeavor to gather as many survival resources as possible. This is the key to your survival.
5. Once placed, the safe house cannot be moved. You will have the option to choose between an aboveground or underground location for your initial placement.
6. If you encounter others, congratulations! You might be able to form alliances, trade, or even plunder the resources they have painstakingly collected.
7. Focusing your attention will open the Game Panel, with many features for you to discover.
8. Do not worry about the elderly and children. They will be deployed later than you, and family
members will be given priority in deployment.
Enjoy the game!]
An endless wilderness stretched before Su Mo, his brow slightly furrowed as he read the survival manual
in his hand. The black text on the first page shimmered, and as he turned to the second page, a dazzling
light burst forth. Once the light faded, the book was gone, replaced by a glowing turtle shell.
“Doomsday Survival Game, huh?” Su Mo mused, looking at the deep blue screen that swayed and
moved with his gaze.
On December 22, 2022, no one anticipated that the Mayan prophecy, delayed by a decade, would
suddenly come true. Solar flares erupted, asteroids struck the Earth, and as Su Mo watched the terrifying
flames descend, he lost consciousness.
Upon awakening, he found himself in this new place.
(Safe House):
Option to place above ground: Forms a 120 square meter wooden cabin, weak disaster resistance,
excellent developmental potential.
Option to place underground: Forms a 4-meter high, 100 square meter underground bunker, weak
disaster resistance, limited developmental potential.
Su Mo carefully examined the turtle shell in his hand, revealing two lines of dark text. Surveying the
surrounding wilderness, he dismissed the idea of immediate placement. Recalling the earlier prompts,
he focused his thoughts and summoned the Game Panel, similar to the game’s functionality.
The panel offered various options: (Chat), (Trade), (Craft), (Items). In the panel’s top right-hand corner
was a day counter: 5 days.
Focusing on the day counter, a prompt appeared:
(Countdown to the next disaster event: 5 days)
(Disaster Event [Newbie Protection]: Acid Rain)
“Acid rain in five days? Good thing I didn’t choose to set up base immediately,” Su Mo thought, his expression growing serious. He shifted his gaze to the chat button.
The page changed, revealing two new buttons: (World Channel) and (Local Channel).
First, he entered the World Channel:
“Why am I not in a shelter? How did I suddenly end up in this godforsaken place?”
“There’s a lion next to me, help! It’s eyeing me!”
“The end of humanity has come, haha, everyone will perish!”
“Do you all have only one safe house to place?”
Conversations scrolled by. Su Mo noticed a small loudspeaker icon next to the chat button, followed by
the number one.
(Small Loudspeaker: In the early stages of the game, you can only post one message per day in the World
Channel. After surviving each disaster, the number of daily loudspeakers will increase. For more frequent
chatting, enter the Local Channel.)
“Is this to prevent players from forming groups? Or to limit national powers?” Su Mo wondered, shifting
his gaze away.
From the current information, it was clear: everyone was stranded in the wilderness with no distinctions
at the start, beginning with just a safe house.
“A message per day, even for state machinery, it’s difficult to gather enough people for development in
such an environment, not to mention the sheer size of this place is unknown,” Su Mo pondered as he
exited the World Channel.
He then entered the Local Channel for a quick look. It was akin to a QQ chat group, showing 1000
members. In the chat group, everyone’s avatar was their real photo, with nicknames consisting of their
names and heights.
“Is the wilderness the only terrain? Does anyone have a water source nearby? I’m dying of thirst.”
“Don’t choose the underground safe house; it’s a deathtrap with no lighting, ventilation, or drainage.
Staying there during acid rain is like being in a tomb.”
“Don’t lose hope, everyone. Check out the crafting page. Minecraft players will be thrilled. Prioritize
placing your safe house on higher ground.”
“Is it possible that of all the places where people were deployed globally, no one is near a water source?
That’s absurd!”
After silently observing for a few minutes and gathering some useful information, Su Mo decided to exit
the chat. The first wave of the survival game weeded out the elderly and children, leaving mostly young
adults. Excluding a few who had never faced adversity, most had quickly adapted and started self-rescue
efforts. However, some, out of curiosity, had already placed their safe houses, now finding themselves
stuck.
Next, Su Mo explored the trading feature. The trading platform allowed players to barter items. The rules
were fair and free, and items could also be gifted to specific players. An auction feature had also
emerged within the trading system, operating without any commission fees.
“Let’s open the crafting page,” Su Mo thought as he turned his attention to another function.
The page opened to a full list of items:
– Plank: Lumber 0/1
– Wooden Box: Lumber 0/4
– Charcoal: Lumber 0/1, Fire Source
– Ordinary Iron Shovel: Lumber 0/2, Iron Block 0/2
There were dozens of basic necessities, each requiring different materials for crafting. Clearly, gathering
and crafting materials were vital in this survival game.
He then turned to the last feature – Items. As he stored the safe house in his inventory and then
retrieved it with his thoughts, Su Mo had become quite familiar with the game’s basic functions.
“It’s time to choose a location for the safe house,” he thought, noting the sun directly overhead. He
scanned the vast plains around him, covered with half-human-high unknown trees and some scattered
grass, not entirely barren.
Within his line of sight, there were no signs of rivers or lakes.
“I’ll have to choose a high ground for placement,” Su Mo mused as he walked from his starting point,
occasionally crouching to assess the terrain.
Eventually, he settled on a small sand dune. As he took out the safe house turtle shell, the options
appeared again: above ground or underground.
The first choice, an above-ground wooden cabin, seemed a standard and safe option. It promised a
secure start through the initial disasters and didn’t require much worry for future development. If he
could expand on the surrounding land, it might even grow into a city.
The second choice, underground, offered natural safety advantages, like protection against beast tides or
cold disasters. Disasters difficult to survive above ground might be easily weathered underground.
However, without sufficient drainage before the impending acid rain, it could spell disaster.
After some contemplation, Su Mo decided. If the keyword for the first option was development
potential, then for the second, it was safety and security. In this apocalyptic world, being quick and
proactive is crucial; falling behind at the start could mean not being able to cope with future disasters.
“Acid rain… The development potential of high ground is extremely important.”
“So, I choose…”
With a shake of his head and a playful toss of the turtle shell in his hand, Su Mo unhesitatingly chose the
second option.
(You have selected to create an underground shelter. Generating terrain…)
The turtle shell burst into a brilliant red glow, leaping from Su Mo’s hand to the ground. As the light
intensified, the pebbles on the sand dune slowly melted away, transforming the terrain dramatically. The
slightly elevated land became steeper, resembling a small hill that had suddenly risen.
As the red light gradually faded, a wooden door embedded in the earth materialized before Su Mo’s
eyes.
(Congratulations, your underground shelter has been successfully created. Current shelter attributes can
be viewed on the panel.)
“Ding! A complete shelter has been detected. Would you like to bind it to the Doomsday Survival
System?”
