Reincarnated Dragon in the City - Chapter 24 - Jason Li
Hannah and her husband were indeed a model couple. Married for many years, they never even had a quarrel, let alone a fight! Countless people envied this couple. After his rebirth, Alexander saw them together for the first time and always felt that their relationship was too bland. He believed he couldn’t manage such a mundane way of being with his wife.
“Just him getting married?” William sipped his drink and said, “Doesn’t even have a suitable girlfriend. Who is he marrying?”
“Dad, don’t push me, or I might start thinking about Chloe again!” Alexander joked with a laugh. “If something forceful happens again, don’t you all…”
“Smack”!
Hannah hit Alexander on the head with her chopsticks, scolding with a smile, “What are you babbling about in front of the kids!”
“Mommy, what does ‘forceful’ mean?” Evelyn innocently asked.
“It’s nothing, your uncle is talking nonsense! Don’t listen to him, Evelyn. Here, eat some meat to grow tall!” Grace quickly distracted Evelyn, feeding her while shooting a glare at Alexander.
Remembering past events, Andrew Yang apologized to William and his wife, “I’m sorry I couldn’t help with that previous matter…” He was supposed to arrest Alexander, but couldn’t face William, hence excused himself to his chief.
“You can’t be blamed for this!” William Xu waved his hand dismissively. “It’s this boy’s fault for messing with the wrong people. Even Capatain Li couldn’t help, what could you, a police captain, do? Luckily, Chloe is forgiving. Otherwise, our Xu family would have been in real trouble!”
Alexander rolled his eyes secretly. His dad still thought Chloe Song had saved him. Chloe, forgiving? What a joke!
Andrew raised his glass, “This drink is both an apology for not helping before and thanks for Alexander saving Evelyn. Cheers!”
Andrew finished his drink in one gulp.
William hurriedly asked him to sit down, “Andrew, you’re too formal with us. Alexander has troubled you enough before. Should I stand and toast to you too? We’re all family, no need for such formalities!”
Andrew agreed but remained courteous.
After dinner, Grace took Evelyn to play in the backyard, while the rest discussed the day’s events.
“What, you’re saying Sofia Li is actually Brian Li’s mistress?” Hannah was shocked upon hearing the details from Alexander, her eyes wide in disbelief.
“Who would have thought!” Alexander said with a bitter smile. “Calling her a mistress is too kind. She’s nothing but Brian Li’s plaything!”
Indeed, no mere mistress would be treated with such degrading tools!
“Sigh, appearances can be deceiving!” William sighed. “Young girls ruined by scoundrels like Brian Li!”
Hannah rolled her eyes, wondering why William didn’t mention his own troublesome son.
“Brother-in-law, be careful lately. The Li family is vindictive. They won’t let the failed kidnapping of Evelyn slide. Try to stay out of the police station as much as possible!” Alexander warned.
Though the Li family wouldn’t openly harm Andrew, after the failed kidnapping and their losses, they would definitely harm him covertly.
“How can I, a police captain, stay in the station all day? I have to show face, especially after today’s big case. Don’t worry, I don’t think they’d dare touch me,” Andrew said.
He’s now more worried about the warehouse shooting case than the Blood Wolf Squad. If he didn’t implicate Alexander, the case would remain unsolved, damaging the police’s reputation and his own position.
“Anyway, be careful, don’t worry me and Evelyn,” Hannah advised gently.
“Of course, I’ll be careful,” Andrew smiled reassuringly.
After chatting, Andrewleft to ponder his next steps. Having had a drink, he asked William to arrange a driver for him.
Watching Andrew leave, Alexander chuckled. If others had Andrew’s status, even heavy drinking wouldn’t stop them from driving.
Alexander contemplated acting against the Blood Wolf Squad. Deciding to wait until his allies were stronger, he planned to eradicate them completely. Dealing with such a force required a decisive, one-time action to protect his loved ones.
He also planned to investigate the Li family’s network, aiming to eradicate all their influence.
But before that, causing some trouble for the Li family to divert attention from the warehouse shooting would also ease some pressure on Andrew Yang. A win-win situation indeed!
Having made up his mind, Alexander called Joseph You to have those photos and videos posted online. For Joseph, who thrived on chaos, this task was gladly accepted.
The next morning, the first thing Alexander did after waking up was to check the news on his computer.
As expected, even though it was only seven o’clock, the internet was already in an uproar!
Joseph not only posted the photos of Brian Li and Sofia Li online, but also exposed the relationships between other members of the Li family and the actresses of New Era Company, sending the internet into a frenzy.
Almost all the female artists of New Era Company were implicated, with their explicit text messages and photos with the Li family members leaked, confirming the relationships of patronage and dependency.
This led to an uproar. All the female artists of New Era Company were now seen as playthings of the Li family. Countless fans wept and sighed for their crushed ideals while downloading those sensational photos. Many were roused from their beds to join the online spectacle and the chorus of denunciations against the Li family.
Major stars distanced themselves from these artists on social media, condemning the outrageous act of exposing the photos. They unanimously demanded that the police quickly identify the perpetrator, insisting that such a person should not be allowed to exist.
…
Brian Li, nearly seventy years old, was still in robust health, with not a single white hair, a ruddy complexion, and bright, spirited eyes. He had a routine of practicing Tai Chi in the yard every morning, regardless of the weather.
That morning, as Brian was leisurely practicing Tai Chi in the yard, he suddenly heard hurried footsteps. His eyes flashed coldly, and he stopped his movements.
“Dad, something’s happened!” Eric Li rushed in, holding a stack of thick newspapers.
Disturbed, Brian’s face showed displeasure as he sharply scolded, “All flustered, what a disgrace! A true leader remains calm even if Mount Tai collapses in front of them. How can you manage the Blood Wolf Squad like this?”
The Li family’s foothold in Tianhai City was secured by their control over the Blood Wolf Squad, a power they could not afford to lose.
Although Eric had been in charge of the Blood Wolf Squad for five years, he still dared not act rashly in front of his father, not only because of the power the elder held but also out of fear of his father’s own formidable strength. Just one look from his father could make him shrink back.
“Dad, you should look at this first…” Eric cautiously handed over the newspapers to his father, then quickly stepped back, knowing his father would soon erupt in fury. It was better to keep a safe distance to avoid collateral damage.
Brian took the newspaper with a puzzled look, curious about what could have frightened his son so much.
“Damn it! Find out who did this, now! I’ll make sure they have no place to bury their body!” Just a glance at the newspaper set Brian off, his rage exploding onto the nearby stone table. With a loud “crack,” the table split in two, leaving a shallow handprint on its surface.
This display of strength made Eric’s scalp tingle with fear, silently thanking his foresight in stepping away. Such a blow would have left him bedridden for weeks!
Not only Eric, but other members of the Li family also rushed to the elder’s yard upon hearing the news. Although Brian had been retired for many years, he was still the patriarch of the Li family, wielding absolute power.
Watching their patriarch’s thunderous rage, everyone lowered their heads, not daring to breathe too loudly. Only one person dared to speak up in such a situation – a young man with a cold and sinister face, who stepped forward and calmly said, “Grandfather, it’s obvious. This is surely retaliation from Andrew Yang and the Xu family!”
“Xu family? William Xu?” Seeing his eldest grandson, Brian’s anger subsided slightly. With a stern face, he asked, “Why do you think the Xu family is involved?”
This young man was Jason Li, who dared to speak up even in his grandfather’s wrath, unlike his father Erc. Jason had always been groomed by Brian and had not disappointed him. After years of hardening, Jason had firmly established his position in the Li family.
