Shattered - Chapter 7 - Like I Said Last Chapter, You Aren’t Self-Aware!
It happened during one lunch time, it was merely the start of the week, and as Myu walked by the school’s gym, she heard a voice coming from behind.
“Please! Go out with me!” High school goals… or rather, high school troupes. Were such basic and incredibly repetitive wishes teens have once they enter high school. One of them, of course, is getting a girlfriend.
Myu simply hid in the blink of an eye, and decided to take a peek, simply for the sake of an anecdote. “Huh?” The baffled voice belonged to her, as even though the one asking out was a guy, the girl in the receiving end… was… well…
“H-huh…?” Her scarlet eyes opened wide, and across her face, a confused expression was clearly visible. The person getting confessed to, Maki Fujisaki, couldn’t help but feel off and simply disconnected from reality.
“U-uhm…” As she tried to say something, she continued to stutter, and after a while she finally finished saying her answer. “I-I’m sorry.” Maki simply bowed, and the boy simply wryly smiled.
“It’s okay… Then, I’ll be leaving.” The boy said and quickly left. When he was nowhere in sight, Maki simply sighed and leaned against the wall. “That was quite the scene.” (Myu)
“Fueh?! M-Myu?! Since when have you been there?!” (Maki)
“From the start.” (Myu)
“I see.” (Maki)
❆
“Where’s Noah?” Maki asked as he received the drink from Myu and sat on the concrete bench. “Eating with some classmates.” (Myu)
“He sure adapts fast… Envy~” (Maki)
It’s their first full week, and by the looks of it, Noah has already managed to interact with some of his classmates and build some additional friendships. As for Maki, well…
“Don’t you have any friends in your class, Maki?” (Myu)
It felt as if thunder strikes, and Maki slumped in defeat almost on the verge of tears. “I’m an outcast…” She said with a hint of exaggeration. “I see.” Myu only sat down and chugged down her drink.
“Could you pretend to at least be interested?!” (Maki)
Myu silently placed her drink down, and then she simply stared at Myu with an expression as if urging her to go on. “That doesn’t make it any better…” Maki sighed with a look of disappointment.
Though Maki’s demeanor has somehow changed, when it came to actually interacting with others, she still had some kind of difficulty. During the first few days, she couldn’t help but stay seated on her place as the rest of her classmates simply conversed with each other and got to know one another.
“Don’t you have any friends from middle school?” (Myu)
“…no.” Maki said with a gloomy tone. As of now, neither of the three had any acquaintances they knew of in this same school, which in Noah’s case was odd, granted that he didn’t move unlike the others did.
“By the way, about the confession—” (Myu)
“Please forget you saw that. I have no intention of dating anybody right now.” Maki said as she stretched her back. Myu simply gave a small nod and questioned, “Why’s that?” (Myu)
“Meh~ I don’t simply feel like it, I don’t really have much of an interest in romantic stuff.” Maki said sincerely. In the midst of their conversation, the bell rang which marked the end of it. The two stood up and walked a little far within the corridor, until they bumped into Noah again. “Hey, you two.” Noah said with a small wave.
Myu solemnly nodded, and Maki returned the greeting, “Heya~ What’s your next period, you two?” (Maki)
“Physical education, I think?” (Myu)
“Neither of us are used to the schedule yet.” Noah said with a wry smile. “Well, it’s only Monday, so no wonder.” Maki said with a giggle. Noah, all of a sudden, simply decided to turn around Maki’s question.
“What’s your next class?” (Noah)
“Biology.” She said with a groan. “I want to leave already…” (Maki)
“We all do.” Myu said as she started walking towards the classroom. “Huh? W-wait—! M-Myu!” Noah said as he saw her walking away without waiting for him.
“S-see you later, Maki! I-I have something to tell you guys later!” Noah said as he trotted to Myu’s side while waving at her. Maki simply returned the wave and with a soft smile, saw their disappearing backs.
❆
Fifteen minutes into her Biology course, her class got assigned with a simple classwork involving her textbook. All good… if it wasn’t in pairs. Surprisingly enough, Maki herself found a pair. The girl had a serious demeanor which reminded her of Myu, she had long gray hair while her pastel-violet eyes emphasized her sharp gaze.
Unlike all the girls which wore a skirt, she instead wore the same pants as the boy’s uniform, a detail that made her realize that the girl herself seemed to be quite tall.
“U-uhm…” Maki stuttered as she struggled to get the words out. “Fujisaki, right?” The girl said without making eye contact. “Y-yes…” Maki nodded.
“Do you understand any of this? Biology is not my forte, you see…” The girl said with a sigh. Maki’s eyes widened, and still nervous she cleared her throat and let out a faint, yes.
From there on, Maki explained most of the concepts and questions needed to complete the assignment, the other girl simply stayed quiet and as they worked, the two started to make some small talk.
As they learned more about each other, Maki asked her name and got surprised at how unusual yet beautiful her name was. Maki’s not self-aware yet, but her multiple personalities are a reason as to why many people seem to get interested in her.
…Just kidding, she just doesn’t know how much of a beauty she herself is… Well, all in due time, I guess?
