“It’s… it’s really delicious! It’s soft, but it’s different from the fluffy round one… um… I guess you could say that it’s more springy…”

Annie said before falling into deep thought, as if searching for the right words.

“It’s chewy, right?” 

When I said that she  looked up in sudden realisation.

“……! That’s right! The word ‘chewy’ might be the closest! It’s not hard, but it’s different from the fluffy one here. It’s soft, but… it has a chewy texture! This is strange! The fluffy one is delicious too, but I like this one better!”

“Me too! It’s completely different from hard bread… It’s like a middle ground between soft and hard? That’s what makes it so good!”

Riri, who was next to her, nodded vigorously. There were even voices of agreement coming from all directions.

Huh… It seems the children liked the baguette more than I thought they would. Maybe it’s because they don’t know soft bread at all, so they feel a little uncomfortable with the butter rolls that are too soft? But they said it’s delicious, right? Is it just a matter of preference?

But the butter rolls definitely have more impact. Just by touching it, you can tell that it’s something completely different from the bread you know.

The impactful butter rolls and the approachable baguette.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have both available for tasting when we open the store.

“So, what do you guys think?”

As I looked around, the children answered in a single voice.

“This is the first time I’ve ever had such delicious bread!”

Hmm! Great answer! Alright! A huge success!

I couldn’t help but pump my fist in excitement.

“You know, these aren’t the only types of bread I make. Would you like me to bake some of them and bring them around again?”

“Huh!? There are others? I want to eat it! I want to eat it!”

“Please bring it! I’m looking forward to it!”

The younger kids’ eyes lit up at once.

However, some of the older children exchanged glances with looks of confusion. Annie and Riri are among them.

Hmm, that’s a good sign.

I leaned down and smiled at the girls.

“My dream is to open a store where there are many delicious breads like this.”

“Eh? A like a bakery?”

“Yeah, do you think these would sell?”

“…”

Annie and Riri looked at each other again.

“But it’ll probably be expensive, right? Perhaps only nobles would be able to afford it… Such delicious bread… it can’t be cheap…”

“Ah, but if it’s a store specifically for nobles, it might sell…? Hmm… but we’re not nobles, so you’re probably more knowledgeable about that, right my lady?”

“Huh? But I’m no longer a noble. You know that, right?”

“Yes…? But…”

“I would never open a store just for nobles. Absolutely not. I made this bread because I wanted everyone to have a taste of it. That would be meaningless if it wasn’t affordable. That’s why I plan on selling it at a price that’s not too different from the kind everyone in town already eats.”

“Really!?”

Everyone’s eyes seemed to have widened by a fraction and looked up at me. Yes, of course!

“Yes, really. Hey, do you think people will come? Do you think they’ll buy it?”

“They’d definitely come! I think it’ll sell like hotcakes! I’d buy the whole store if I could!” Max stood up and declared loudly. But then he quickly realised what he’s said and blushed.

“Ah…! Well, once I start earning money…”

“But it looks so different from the usual bread, doesn’t it? Everyone knows it’s delicious because they’ve already eaten it once, but that’s not true for other people. So I’m really worried. Will anyone buy this strange, unknown bread?”

“Then all we have to do is let everyone else know about it. It’s that simple!”

“That’s right! Once they try it, they’ll definitely love it! Be confident!”

“Are there any more butter rolls left? Let’s get more people to try them!”

The children came up with one idea after another.

 I’ve been waiting for this!

“I have mini butter rolls that are a little smaller than the regular ones…” I said clasping my hands together.

“Actually, I was thinking of the same idea, but I was worried about doing it alone…So, guys would you all like to help me distribute bread around town?”

“Of course!”

“That goes without saying!”

“Don’t be shy about it!”

“We can be of  help, my lady!”

The children raised their hands competitively. Annie and Riri also smile at each other, looking relieved.

“Thank you! Then I’ll go get the bread!  Can everyone be ready to go out after they’ve eaten?”

“Yes!”

I couldn’t help, but be happy with their cheerful response.

 These kids are really the best. 

I left the dining hall with a smile on my face.

“Ah, dear priestess.”

“As always, you’re very good with the children.”
