Surviving Until the Grand Finale of Douluo - Chapter 2: Honesty and Kindness
Translated By-Gingerboi
In the blink of an eye, three years had passed. At this moment, within the Pope’s Hall, an exquisite woman sat beside a stone table in the garden, watching a three-year-old boy playing there. This young boy was Qian Chongling.
However, the woman was not Qian Chongling’s birth mother; she was his elder brother Qian Chongguang’s wife, Luo Xue, who was also around forty years old.
Yet, time seemed to have left no trace on her face. She appeared as beautiful as a girl in her twenties. As for Qian Chongling’s mother, Zhou Yun, she had reached the end of her life two years earlier.
Strangely enough, despite being only three years old, Qian Chongling was remarkably intelligent. He learned quickly and understood things that typically only seven or eight-year-olds knew.
Currently, he was having a joyful time playing with a few maids in the garden. Despite being covered in sweat, he remained happy. Luo Xue looked at him and said, “Little Ling, come here and rest for a while!”
Qian Chongling hurried over, “Sister-in-law, I’m not tired. I want to play a bit more!”
Luo Xue took out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat off Qian Chongling’s face and told him, “Rest for a while before you continue playing.”
As the night draped the area in tranquility, the Pope’s Hall was quiet. Most people were asleep, with only a few night patrols still walking around.
Inside Qian Chongling’s room.
Sitting cross-legged on his bed, he focused his breath, closed his eyes, and entered a meditative state. With deep breaths, he silently practiced the “Meditation Technique of the Qian Family Ancestors,” which was the Angelic God’s legacy.
His posture was quite proper, but his thoughts had long drifted away to somewhere else. As a result, Qian Chongling didn’t feel even a trace of soul power flowing into his body.
Originally named Qian Ling, Qian Chongling was just an ordinary office worker on Blue Star, enjoying his leisure time listening to music and reading online novels.
That’s right, at first he had no idea where he had transmigrated to. It wasn’t until one day, when his sister-in-law took him shopping in the Martial Soul City, that he heard a loud shout on the street.
”Old lady’s got a big bun!”
Then a fragrant steamed bun appeared in her hand. This scene felt familiar to Qian Ling, and he quickly remembered.
Back on Blue Star, he had read a novel called “Douluo Continent.” The novel seemed to have this exact setting.
While working on Blue Star, a colleague surnamed Wang had recommended him the novel “Douluo Continent.” According to Wang, it was an extremely positive story.
It depicted the journey of a boy born in poverty who gradually grew stronger. He made many like-minded friends, became an honest, kind, grateful gentleman step by step, and ultimately became a righteous and just deity, bringing order and fairness to the continent. He uprooted the most malicious and evil forces on the continent, the very culprits responsible for his mother’s death, bringing benefits to the land.
Though the story was somewhat cliché, driven by his friend’s recommendation, he naturally decided to give it a read.
First, he secretly learned techniques from a hidden weapon sect and many inner sect classics. He was then forced to jump off a cliff and ended up transmigrating to another world.
At this point, Qian Ling was momentarily stunned, realizing that blindly taking things without asking made him no better than a thief!
Isn’t this behavior just that of a thief? Regardless of whether others eventually forgive you, stealing is still stealing; this behavior cannot be changed! How can thievery be associated with a gentleman? With these doubts in mind, Qian Ling continued reading. Soon, the protagonist, Tang San, began attending school, and then a shocking scene unfolded!
Due to their humble origins, Tang San and the village chief were dressed modestly, which led the gatekeepers to look down on them and mock them! Consequently, Tang San, who was honest, kind, and grateful, prepared to take action against these two gatekeepers. A dispute escalated into a confrontation that resulted in him wanting to take their lives. Isn’t this the sort of behavior typically associated with ruthless villains who kill without hesitation?
Admittedly, the gatekeepers were wrong in their behavior, but does that justify a death sentence? A scolding or reprimand should have sufficed. After all, you’re dressed like a beggar; who would you stop if not them?
After finishing this scene, Qian Ling thought that maybe due to his young age, Tang San would eventually change his ways. So, he continued reading.
The next scene introduced the strongest mouthpiece king in the Douluo Continent, who appeared and deceived the gatekeepers, saving them and taking Tang San under his wing.
Tang San fell for the deception and became his disciple. Although his innate full soul power came from practicing Xuan Tian Gong, he didn’t know much about this world and didn’t pay it much attention.
After becoming a disciple, the mouthpiece king took Tang San hunting soul beasts to get him a soul ring. They headed to the Spirit Hunting Forest.
Despite being skilled in talk, the mouthpiece king’s actual combat abilities were disastrous. He was nearly killed by a hundred-year soul beast in the Spirit Hunting Forest. Ultimately, it was Tang San who took action and finished off the beast.
And the next scene left Qian Ling shocked once again!
Tang San used hidden weapons to bring down the soul beast, and yet he worried that Grandmaster might discover his secret. In his heart, he considered killing Grandmaster to silence him!
That’s right, he was contemplating killing Grandmaster , the very person he had recently called his mentor and father for life!
Good heavens, at this scene, Qian Ling exclaimed in disbelief. Was he about to “patricide”? How would this cunning child become an upright, kind, grateful gentleman?
Fortunately,Grandmaster didn’t uncover Tang San’s secret, so he narrowly escaped danger.
Time went on, and soon Tang San graduated from the junior academy. He took his adopted sister, Xiaowu, and followed Grandmaster ‘s arrangement to attend a place called the Shrek Academy.
Here, Tang San met five other companions: Dai Mubai, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing. Together, they formed the team known as the Shrek Seven Monsters.
As the story progressed, revealing the personalities and characters of these five kids, something in Qian Ling seemed to drop to the ground.
The leader of the Seven Monsters, Dai Mubai, was known as the Evil Eye White Tiger in Suotuo City, a time management expert.
His favorite pastime involved hanging out with models in clubs, indulging in luxuries, stirring up trouble, and being arrogantly self-assured. Because of a disagreement in a room, he even fought with Tang San. However, considering he was a prince of the Star Luo Empire, it was somewhat normal for him to have these interests.
The problem is that he’s a prince of the Star Luo Empire, and he needs to participate in the competition for the throne. If he fails, it’s not just death but likely being discarded. So, our Evil Eye White Tiger classmate found himself hopeless, with a zero chance of success. He abandoned his fiancée and transformed himself into a time management expert. He left his fiancée Zhu Zhuqing all alone in the Star Luo Empire to feel the heat and pressure. At the very least, he should’ve taken his fiancée and run away together.
Combining all of this, it’s no wonder he’s called Evil Eye White Tiger. He truly lives up to the “Evil Tiger” part, a shining example of scum and a model for Sea God.
The second of the Seven Monsters, Oscar, is known as the Scheming Uncle, a sausage vendor. He’s one of the two relatively normal ones among the Seven Monsters. His drawback is that he can be a bit sneaky, but that’s understandable. After all, who isn’t a bit of a gentleman?
The third of the Seven Monsters, Tang San, is known as an upright, kind, grateful gentleman, and his character speaks for itself.
The fourth of the Seven Monsters, Ma Hongjun, is known as the Seductive Phoenix. He’s the most disgusting of the group, extremely vulgar and lecherous. He drools at the sight of an attractive woman and has a disgustingly perverted mind.
The fifth of the Seven Monsters, Xiaowu, is called Little Dance. Well, “little” is far from accurate. She’s actually the human form of a hundred thousand-year soul beast, the Soft Boned Rabbit of the Star Dou Forest. She’s not even human.
The sixth of the Seven Monsters, Ning Rongrong, is the little princess of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. She’s rude and unreasonable, with an extremely arrogant demeanor. Her arrogance rivals even that of Dai Mubai. She carries herself like the number one in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan.
She’s a textbook example of Princess Syndrome in the advanced stage. But well, as long as there’s treatment for the sickness, it’s fine. Later on, this little witch becomes somewhat more normal.
The youngest of the Seven Monsters, Zhu Zhuqing, is the second young miss of the Zhu family in the Star Luo Empire. She’s the one who fits the criteria of a normal person. Her pursuit is simple: just to survive.
She has a good personality, resilient and persevering. She can even endure the actions of the Evil Eye White Tiger. But then again, she probably didn’t have many other options.
