- Chapter 9 - My Future Wife Who Broke Into My Lonely Life [1]
It’s Monday after the holidays. In the morning, Renge and I were having breakfast in the living dining room.
The breakfast Renge prepared consisted of tamagoyaki, a miso soup with plenty of vegetables, natto topped with green onions, and cucumber pickled in rice bran.
Perhaps because it contains soy sauce and mirin, the tamagoyaki has a sweet and salty flavor that I like. The miso soup contains lots of vegetables and comes with fermented natto and rice bran pickles, probably out of concern for health. I don’t want to admit it, but this alone is enough to make me want to marry her for real.
After finishing breakfast, feeling uncertain whether I should be happy or regretful, I begin my conversation while sipping the brown rice tea that Renge has brewed for me.
“Let’s keep the fact that we’re engaged a secret.”
“Why?”
“…if we reveal that we’re engaged, there will definitely be an uproar, right? You wouldn’t want that either, right? For the same reason, let’s keep our contact to a minimum at school. I’ve never had any contact with you. If we get closer, someone who suspects our relationship might appear.”
I thought I was being considerate, but for some reason, Renge blinked her eyes and tilted her head.
“Are you unwilling to cause a fuss?”
“Of course. I can already imagine getting teased, bombarded with questions, and getting into complicated situations. Our peaceful school life is going to be disrupted, you know?”
“I don’t mind, in fact, I welcome it.”
“……you are a masochist, aren’t you? ”
“It’s not like that in particular, but if that’s what Hidetsugu-kun wants…”
“You don’t need to say anything more!”
Renge was about to say something outrageous, so I hurriedly stopped her. I cleared my throat to hide how flustered I was and went back to the main topic.
“”Why do you wish for things to become chaotic? It doesn’t seem sane to me, but…””
“I mean, I can become a hot topic because I’m engaged to Hidetsugu-kun, right? I can spread the word about my relationship with Hidetsugu-kun throughout the school, right? Isn’t that a wonderful thing?”
“I see, I understand. You’re a total weirdo.”
“If you say that, I’ll get embarrassed, you know?”
“I’m not praising you, am I? Rather, I’m not even criticizing you. ”
I glare at the bashful Renka and retort. Could it be that my future wife (temporary) has a few screws loose in her head?
As I covered my face and sighed, Renge put her finger on her chin and looked thoughtful.
“However, if it causes trouble for Hidetsugu-kun, that’s a different story. Even though I’m reluctant, I’ll do as Hidetsugu-kun says.”
“”It’s something that one would usually readily accept, though.””
“That’s right. I’m disqualified as a wife.”
“…That’s enough. My head is starting to hurt.”
I sighed and slumped my shoulders in exhaustion
