The protagonist who hates losers is so sweet to me. - Chapter 47
“Be more clear,” Song Xinqi said as he walked over to him. “What do you mean you’re not Yu Qing?”
“I’m also Yu Qing, but not the Yu Qing from this world.” Since he had decided to come clean, he explained everything, “I’m from an ordinary world. My body died, and somehow I ended up in the body of Yu Qing from this world.”
This was beyond Song Xinqi’s understanding, and he needed some time to digest this information. He nodded and said, “Go on.”
“This is a novel from my original world. I’ve traveled into the story. The protagonist is you, and I knew from the beginning who you were and what you would do.”
That was Yu Qing’s biggest concern. He immediately added, “But even though I came from another world, we’ve already established a mental link. You know I can’t survive alone for long. I’m not deliberately trying to cling to you.”
Song Xinqi looked at his eyes, which were gleaming with sincerity, trying to accept his words. “When exactly did you come over? Was the child version of you really you?”
That was Yu Qing’s lifetime of embarrassment. He averted his gaze and looked at the air beside him. “Yes, the one in Tian Luo Town was me. I came over when you arrived at the town. As soon as I arrived, I started persuading you about the mental link, hoping you would take me along. After that, it was all me.”
Song Xinqi thought about it. Yu Qing had indeed been different since then. He had thought he was just using new tricks, not realizing it was a different person inside.
However, from that time, Yu Qing was indeed different from his previous impression. He always seemed out of place in the apocalypse. Although he seemed to have adapted to the apocalypse and was surviving well, it was still obvious that he was different from others.
It was a unique personality formed over years, and the apocalypse could only change his exterior a little, not his essence.
Song Xinqi felt relieved by his answer, knowing that the Yu Qing who had been with him for a long time had changed his view and had nothing to do with the so-called “Yu Qing from this world.”
Yu Qing continued to explain, “Even though I’ve read the original novel, I never had bad intentions just because you were the protagonist. I wouldn’t dare to harm you. Those who tried to harm you didn’t end up well.”
“Did you have bad intentions back then?” Song Xinqi asked meaningfully.
Yu Qing nodded vigorously, trying to convince him with his sincerity. “No, never! Now, of course, I have none. You’ve been so good to me. How could I ever want to harm you?”
Song Xinqi’s lips curled into a barely perceptible smile. Although it wasn’t the answer he had hoped for, it was still satisfactory.
Seeing that his expression was still calm, Yu Qing gained a bit of confidence. “I’ve come clean. Do you believe me?”
At this, Song Xinqi’s small expressions disappeared, returning to his stern demeanor. His dark eyes revealed nothing of his thoughts, causing Yu Qing’s newly gained confidence to slowly fade away.
“Are you nervous?” Song Xinqi asked.
“Of course,” Yu Qing admitted. “I’m afraid you might think I approached you because of the novel and have ulterior motives. And, honestly, the whole idea of traveling into a book is so strange that anyone would question it.”
Song Xinqi approached him, expressionless, and pinched his smooth, delicate face, pulling it outward slightly.
Yu Qing immediately frowned. “Ah, what are you doing?”
Song Xinqi put on a stern expression. “A punishment for not trusting me.”
After letting go of his face and seeing him rubbing his slightly reddened cheeks with a pout, his eyes showed a fleeting amusement. “Since you’ve come clean and I understand, let’s go.”
Just like that?
Yu Qing sat back in the car, still feeling a sense of unreality about how smoothly things had gone.
He looked at Song Xinqi beside him. “I came from another world. Don’t you have any questions for me?”
“Well, what will happen to us from now on?”
“You’re the most powerful ability user in the world! Our current safety zone will become the largest and most powerful safety zone,” Yu Qing said, “As for me, in the original novel, Yu Qing died in the old safety zone. I survived, so I’m not sure what happens next.”
He opened the window and breathed in the fresh air. “I’m so happy. I’m sure I can live a long time this time.”
Under the sunlight, his radiant smile seemed to dispel the darkness even more than the sun itself.
Although he always spoke of his own weakness, his inner strength was greater than anyone else’s. His sunny optimism unknowingly influenced many people.
“Yu Qing,” Song Xinqi said, facing forward but keeping his attention on him, “What were you like before?”
“Before, I lived like I do now.” Yu Qing rarely talked about his previous world, but it was a cherished memory he was happy to share with Song Xinqi.
He loved chatting, especially about things he liked. Once he started talking, he couldn’t stop. Song Xinqi listened with interest to his experiences from his previous life, hearing about his beautiful living environment, intimate family moments, and harmonious neighborhood.
Happiness can be contagious. Even someone as emotionally detached as Song Xinqi could sense the warmth from Yu Qing’s joyful stories.
It was indeed an ideal world, pure white without any pollution.
As he listened further, he began to sense something wrong. Was the mortality rate around Yu Qing too high?
When he heard that Yu Qing had received a letter from a deceased friend, Song Xinqi asked, “How did you die?”
“Encountered a medical dispute and accidentally got pushed down the stairs,” he replied nonchalantly, with no emotional reaction to such a death.
Song Xinqi frowned. “Did you live in a hospital?”
“Yes.”
The ideal world finally revealed its true nature. The friendly nurses and doctors who constantly cared for him, and the friendly neighbors in the streets were all patients from different wards.
The pure white fairy tale had been torn apart, revealing its cold, stark interior.
Song Xinqi’s expression faltered slightly, and he turned to Yu Qing. “Does having such a body make you sad?”
Yu Qing’s gaze shifted slightly, leaning against the leather seat. “Not really. It was a bit tough at first, but I’m very lucky. My family is wealthy, and this disease is quite expensive to manage, but it’s not a problem for them. My parents have a great relationship, and they love me very much. The people around me are also very kind. I’ve been so fortunate, so having a few imperfections is normal.”
The wind blew his bangs, obscuring his clear eyes. He pushed the hair back and smiled, revealing his delicate dimples.
“And besides, I’ve come back to life and have you by my side. I don’t need to worry about survival issues. Maybe the heavens thought I was too useless, so they always sent powerful people to help me out, haha.”
After laughing, he noticed that Song Xinqi’s mood seemed off. “What’s wrong? You don’t seem very happy.”
“Nothing.” Song Xinqi turned his head and accelerated the car. “Aren’t we going to chase the deer? We need to hurry.”
“Oh right, right, let’s chase. I just saw it heading that way.” he pointed in a direction.
They successfully caught up with the mutated deer, bound it, and brought it back to the safety zone.
After several days away from the safety zone, Song Xinqi had accumulated a lot of tasks. After sending Yu Qing back, he left alone.
The new house had everything needed, so Yu Qing could just lie down in bed and sleep peacefully.
He wasn’t ready to sleep yet. Yu Xiaoxue, however, had quickly fallen asleep on the bed. He leaned against the soft, warm fur of the little white mouse and fed it.
Soon, someone knocked on his door. The visitor was Chu Yuan, who wasn’t wearing his usual white lab coat but a clean, fresh shirt, giving him a more gentle appearance.
He was surprised. “Chu Yuan, what are you doing here?”
“I couldn’t find you in the third batch of the relocation team. I asked others but couldn’t find out where you were. Where have you been? Why did it take you so long to come?”
“It’s nothing serious. I just got delayed on the way. I came with Song Xinqi.”
“Song Xinqi?” Chu Yuan’s concern grew. “What were you doing with him? Did he make things difficult for you?”
“No, not at all. I ran into some trouble, and he helped me out. It was all a misunderstanding, and everything has been resolved. We’re on good terms now!” Yu Qing spoke well of Song Xinqi. Having a good relationship with the safety zone’s leader was quite impressive.
Chu Yuan remained skeptical. Song Xinqi was a lone wolf, and Yu Qing was from a completely different world. It was surprising that they even had interactions, let alone getting along well.
Was Yu Qing being overly optimistic?
Before he could say more, a group of people surged in from outside, with Brother Ye shouting loudly, “Yu Qing, we came to see you!”
The loud voice startled Yu Xiaoxue from her sleep, who then curled up again after seeing who it was.
Yu Qing ran outside, his smile never leaving his face. “Brother Ye, Peng Shu, Yaoyao…”
He called out each name, and these were teammates he had met during missions. They hadn’t distanced themselves from him because of rumors; instead, they had offered him much help.
Peng Shu walked in front. “We heard you had an accident on the way. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, look, I’m perfectly fine.”
Brother Ye ruffled his hair. “You didn’t even tell us when you came back. You made us come find you.”
“No, I just got back and didn’t have the chance to tell you,” Yu Qing said as he patted his disheveled hair.
It was clear that they were genuinely worried, coming over just to confirm his safety. After a lively reunion, everyone went their separate ways.
“We have things to do, so we’ll leave first,” Brother Ye said to Peng Shu with a wink. “Peng Shu will stay behind and keep you company.”
Peng Shu’s face immediately turned red as he nudged Brother Ye with his elbow.
Once everyone had left, only Peng Shu and Chu Yuan remained.
Peng Shu looked up, a little awkwardly, and said to Yu Qing, “I, I have something I want to tell you. Is it convenient?”
“Convenient,” Yu Qing tilted his head. “What is it?”
Peng Shu glanced at Chu Yuan, who was still standing nearby with a faint smile. “I have something personal to discuss with Yu Qing. Could you please leave?”
Chu Yuan didn’t move, his smile soft but his words carrying an underlying edge. “I happen to have something to say to him as well. It can wait until you’re done.”
Peng Shu realized what was happening. The two were each occupying a side, silently challenging each other—one with caution, the other with a concealed sharpness.
Unaware of the subtle tension between the two, Yu Qing’s curiosity was piqued.
At that moment, another set of footsteps approached, carrying an oppressive force. A cold, frosty voice rang out.
“Why don’t you share whatever you want to say with me as
well?”
