Baron Bacher shook his neck and adjusted his tie.
Ensuring that the tie knot was perfectly centered, he smiled again at the other two remaining individuals.
He seemed to have regained his initial gentlemanly demeanor.
“So, who’s next?” Baron Bacher asked in a gentle and steady tone, as if nothing had happened just now.
“I’ll go,” Dekan volunteered without hesitation.
“Very well,” Baron Bacher replied.
Baron Bacher was a bit surprised that the students became more proactive in the new round.
Usually, after the first round, the remaining students would become terrified. But these two remained calm and confident.
However, the more they acted this way, the more amusing it was for Baron Bacher.
He chuckled again. Unexpected changes are often the best kind of seasoning. To a hunter, the rarer the prey, the more valuable the catch.
Baron Bacher lifted up another plate, and after gracefully circling the long table, approached Dekan.
He gently removed the silver plate covering the dish, revealing a completely different dish. It emitted an enticing aroma, had a golden color, and clear, crisp patterns on its surface. The outer layer of the roasted meat was encased in a crispy crust that shimmered in the lamplight. It was as if the plate had some sort of enchantment to keep the dish fresh.
Dekan resisted the urge to pick up the plate and analyze it further. Instead, he focused on the food.
He sat upright, picked up his knife and fork, and calmly began to cut and eat the dish.
Each bite he took was small, and he chewed it slowly.
Mmm, the crispy outer layer, the inside tender and juicy roasted meat, with the sweetness of the cheese.
What a perfect late night snack.
The whole process lasted for five minutes. Dekan set down his knife and fork and gently wiped his mouth with a napkin.
“Not bad,” Dekan commented, leaning back in his chair.
He even considered taking out his wallet to tip Baron Bacher, but he refrained from doing so.
Dekan’s attitude surprised Baron Bacher. He had never seen a student in the cooking class behave so relaxed. There was no vigilance; instead, it was as if a distinguished guest was evaluating the chef’s skills.
“Am I really inviting him to dinner?” Baron Bacher wondered, questioning whether Dekan was a true gourmet or just a bit crooked in the head.
“Hehehe,” Baron Bacher couldn’t help but laugh.
Despite his astonishment, he felt a hint of excitement. This was an extremely rare type of prey.
He couldn’t wait to see his expression change from calmness to utter despair and watch him beg for mercy.
“I suppose you have an answer then?” Baron Bacher asked, smiling and glancing at Dekan.
“My answer is—”
“Corn, poison, eat, attack,” Dekan interrupted as he leaned back on his chair, crossing his legs.
“Is that your answer?” Baron Bacher frowned, as if he suspected he had heard something wrong.
“That’s right,” Dekan replied emotionlessly.
This left Baron Bacher momentarily stupefied.
What did ‘Corn, poison, eat, attack’ mean?
Regardless, it had nothing to do with the correct answer!
That’s the level you’re at, and you’re still so arrogant?
Are you shitting me? You don’t even know anything, do you? You’ve decided to enjoy your last meal?
Baron Bacher looked at Dekan, who up until now, had appeared to be in the same unperturbed state. He had the feeling that he had been tricked.
Where was the fear and despair he deserved? Those were the best seasonings he could hope for!
Do you really think that this is a restaurant where you can order drinks after enjoying your meal?
“Hehehehe, this is the first time I’ve seen a student like you.” Baron Bacher was furious but he laughed with anger.
“I’ve decided. I’m going to chew you up in my mouth as punishment for not satisfying me!” Baron Bacher exclaimed irritatedly, and his neck elongated again, returning to its monstrous form.
However, this time, he had no intention of savoring the sight of his prey. He opened his mouth wide and lunged straight at Dekan!
At that moment, Cornelia suddenly sprang into action. A sledgehammer appeared in her hand, and she leaped onto the dining table, aiming to strike heavily at Baron Bacher’s elongated neck.
“Boom!”
The deafening sound of metal clashing rang out, piercing the otherwise quiet classroom.
Cornelia’s battlehammer collided with the scales of Baron Bacher’s neck, sparking a few scattered sparks, and the air filled with the smell of burning sulfur and nitrogen, like that of a forge.
Baron Bacher’s neck was smashed at a strange angle from the impact, and his whole body flew backwards.
Cornelia too was pushed back by the immense force and had to stomp her feet twice to come to a halt. But her eyes revealed long-suppressed excitement.
She could finally let loose and fight.
Dekan’s earlier words had been understood only by her. It meant, “Cornelia, I’ve poisoned him. When he’s ready to eat me, attack.”
At the same time, a black mist enveloped the room. Dekan had moved behind Cornelia and summoned Ruined Poet.
Baron Bacher tried to push himself up with an annoyed expression.
He was at his most vulnerable just moments ago, and Cornelia’s attack had caught him off guard.
Besides the lingering pain on his neck, he felt an increasingly intense, inexplicable cramping in his abdomen. But he had no chance to think or mount a counterattack against Cornelia and Dekan.
As the classroom filled with black mist, Baron Bacher suddenly felt the pain in his body increase tenfold. He knelt with difficulty on the ground, violently spitting out a mouthful of bloody vomit.
The carpet stained by his blood began emitting a corrosive grey smoke, as if it was being corroded.
He coughed a few more times, as if trying to cough up all his internal organs, and vomited out some oddly shaped miniature spikes.
“AHHHHHHH! You, what the hell have you done?!” Baron Bacher screamed in a mix of shock and rage.
The pain he felt was beyond what he could describe with experience or words. It was an excruciating, continuous torment.
He writhed on the ground with uncontrollable agony, as if something was trying to tear his body apart, inside out.
“Behave yourself,” [1] Cornelia leapt down from the long table, stepping onto Baron Bacher’s back, and placed the sledgehammer against his head, seemingly calming him down a bit.
“Hehe.”
Dekan, with a soft chuckle, dragged a chair from the long table.
He placed the chair in front of Baron Bacher and sat down, crossing his fingers under his chin with a mocking smile. “You have no right to ask questions. It’s time for my interrogation.”
His tone was laced with sarcasm as he looked at the prostrating Baron Bacher.
