Youkar, Walite - Chapter 4. Everyday fun
Hey, translator here! Daily chap as promised, I might upload a few more bonus chapters in the weekend to make it up for when I was sick, but no guarantees~
Charlie was stunned, his mouth twisting up as his two-pointed beard rose: “Is it you!?”
Without uttering a word, Kagu went and grabbed a large curved knife from beside his chair, knocking over food and drinks. Youkar rolled back to the door and asked, “Is this how you welcome someone? Didn’t I greet you already?”
“Seize her! Don’t let her escape!” Charlie drew a stiletto and stabbed forward.
*Swish—!*
A blue arc passed by as Youkar crouched, “Celestial Hold” already in her right hand. The stiletto was cleaved in half by a single stroke, causing Charlie to step back in fear.
Youkar took a step forward and drew “Crimson Seal”. Kagu twisted his body and swept horizontally, while she immediately retracted her stance, bending her legs and squatting down to dodge.
Kagu followed through with his sweeping motion, transitioning into a downward chop. Youkar didn’t rush to counterattack but instead scanned her surroundings. The lackeys hadn’t arrived yet, while Charlie, gripping his now half-broken knife, was tucked behind Kagu, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Still crouched, the knife slashed towards Youkar’s face as she slid away from its path. The curved knife crashed into the floor, leaving splinters in its wake.
Seizing the moment where Youkar hadn’t risen yet, Charlie gripped his rugged stiletto and thrust it towards her eye.
Youkar’s wrist drove her arm, relying solely on her index finger to grip “Celestial Hold”. A faint blue light flashed, severing Charlie’s arm. Charlie let out a blood-curling cry, and the next moment, Youkar stepped forward, Crimson Seal piercing his heart.
“One down,” Youkar’s words trailed off as Charlie’s body collapsed like mud.
Kagu gripped the curved knife with both hands, his movements becoming more cautious. Youkar flicked the blood off her blades, furrowing her brows, taunting, “Aren’t you going to say something? According to the script, the antagonist should utter some words of defiance just about now.”
Kagu snorted, and Youkar taunted, “It’s unlikely your little lackeys will come to help. They might be too drunk.”
Unexpectedly, Kagu roared with all his might, the curved knife scraping on the floor as his massive body charged towards her.
Youkar hastily blocked with dual blades upon seeing the situation. She was sent flying from the shock as Kagu another mid-air slash. Youkar, still above-ground, quickly arched her body backward, stabilized her legs mid-air and lashed her tail around Kagu’s wrist. Leveraging Kagu’s momentum, she spun her body and landed steadfast behind him. Kagu turned around, as Youkar hooked an half-empty bottle nearby and slammed it in his face.
Kagu, unable to dodge, could only block the wine bottle, the pale liquid splashing onto his shoulders. Youkar took a step forward, Kagu swung his knife, and Youkar held back “Crimson Seal” to slide back.
The heavy curved knife stirred up an intense gust of wind as it passed over her head. Youkar snapped the fingers in her left repeatedly, and a burst of red flames erupted from her palm. The flames stuck to Kagu as soon as they touched him.
“Aaaaah—!” Kagu screamed in agony, the flames had engulfed him in a matter of moments! He frantically slapped his own body in panic, trying to snuff out the flames, but with no result.
At this moment, Youkar leaped up and landed a kick right on Kagu’s neck. Kagu collapsed on the floor, as the flames on his body ignited the floor-soaked wine. Within seconds, tongues of fire crawled up the walls and all over the floor.
“Ah…” Youkar watched as the flames rapidly climbed to the ceiling, accompanied by Kagu’s screams. The entire tower was now engulfed in a fierce blaze. Youkar immediately turned and ran towards the door, but several burning wooden beams fell down, blocking her escape route.
“Tsk…” Youkar turned back, noticing but a few sparks on the ladder. She promptly ran towards it, intending to climb to the top of the tower and use the zip line to escape. Unfortunately, Kagu’s strong hand firmly gripped her ankle.
Youkar lowered her head, and Kagu was completely burnt from head to toe, his skin ulcerated, hair scorched, and clothes melted into a mass emitting a sickening odor.
Kagu’s features were twisted beyond recognition, his entire head resembling a lump of flesh. He mumbled something indistinctly, then his other hand grabbed onto Youkar’s leg, and he hoarsely shouted, “Don’t you… dare… live!!”
With that, he exerted his last ounce of strength, dragging her to the ground with him. Youkar fell down, and, as she looked up, she saw flames crawling up the ladder. She then kicked Kagu’s head, and with a crisp sound, Kagu’s neck twisted to the side. Youkar managed to break his neck with a single kick.
But even so, Kagu’s hand still held tight, refusing to let go. Youkar aimed kicks again, and again at Kagu’s vulnerable spots: his eye sockets, nose, and mouth.
Kagu’s semi-detached head swayed several times, and with each kick from Youkar, a pool of blood spilled. However, Kagu didn’t release his grip, the flames having already risen up most of the ladder.
Subsequently, several pieces of the ceiling fell down, smashing beside the two, with one piece slamming on Kagu’s waist. Seeing Kagu’s vacant eyes and his body unresponsive, and that his grip on her had loosened slightly, Youkar realized he was already dead. She swiftly sat up, cut off Kagu’s hands, broke free from the restraints, and dashed straight for the ladder.
However, not even halfway up, she suddenly stepped into empty space, and the entire ladder collapsed with it.
“Bang!” Youkar fell down, and with the ceiling finally unable to support itself, large segments of it collapsed, burying her underneath.
Outside, the henchmen were in chaos, with one person holding a bucket, trying to extinguish the fire, while three others stood still, at a loss.
The majority of the remaining people were in absolute panick, shouting and running amok in the camp.
The burning tower collapsed with a loud crash not long after, turning into a pile of rubble. “Boss… he…” A lackey sniffed his slightly reddened nose, looking dazed. It was unimaginable that in the time it took to finish a bottle of wine, their boss had lost his life.
The remaining lackeys were dazed, but just then, a hand suddenly emerged from the rubble. The lackeys al took a step back in fright, then another hand emerged, followed by a figure crawling out of the debris.
“Boss?” A lackey hurried and helped the person up.
“Thank you…” The specter brushed off the dust from their body, a chilling smile creeping onto their face as they slowly raised a knife…
In the shroud of the night, piercing screams echoed, one after another. “Huh… These guys aren’t as tough as I thought…” The specter flicked the blood off the blade, lifted it, and glanced at the sky. An eye opened right in the middle of the darkness, peering at everything below. It was midnight.
A gust of wind passed, making Youkar a bit cold. “Let’s find a place to spend the night first… Hmm… And see if there’s any treasure around here,” Youkar muttered to herself, sheathing the blades and crouching down to search through the bodies.
Unfortunately, the bandits didn’t have much on them, only totaling a dozen or so copper coins.
However, interestingly, Youkar found other badges engraved with “Trunk city’s Third Guard” along their corpses. Selling these silver badges to a blacksmith or jeweler might fetch some money. That wasn’t all, the Adventurer’s Guild was also a good option since they paid higher prices for loot than regular places.
Just as Youkar was thinking this, she heard a sudden noise behind her.
